Here's the deal:

I just decided to take a shot at applying to pharmacy school for 2009.
I only have O'Chem left and would be done by spring with the series.
I already have my BS in a different area.
Problem:
I am researching for a lab and I volunteer at a hospital (all scheduled around my classes). I am taking Anatomy/Physiology, Quant. Analysis and
re-taking English Comp (because when I was a freshman I was fooling around with school and got a dumb "C")

Problem: Since I decided to apply this year, I cannot find the time to get my personal statement together (it's all over the place right now), get things together to apply for PHARMCAS, but I am working on my LORs (Both LOR are comming from research and volunteer). The only way I see if I DROP ENG COMP and use that time to apply for school.

But how would that look? A "W" for a class I am re-taking?
But if I want to apply for 2009, then I need to find time somewhere

very bad to get a W and even worst if you get W for the class that you retake. if you want to retake the class, you better get an A. if not, it will look very bad on our transcripts and mess up your gpa. Organic chem may be the exception.
Take some time off from the hospital and use that time to apply (2-3 weeks off). they will understand your situation.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't drop a class that is already a re-take. I don't think anyone can tell you how much another W would factor into the admissions committee' decision besides it doesn't look good, but I agree with the previous poster, if you really need more free time, cut back on volunteering. If you can't do that, just buckle down and make time for it. I'd say the most time-consuming thing is the PS, getting transcripts is not bad at all and inputting information into PharmCAS could be done in an afternoon on the weekend. It's quite doable if you decide to just do it. Just got to make sure you manage every minute of your time well. If you're applying to a ton of schools and will have lots of supplemental apps, it might not be doable without hurting your grades but if you're applying to just a couple of schools I think it'll be tough but very doable.

I had about 23 Ws and a couple Fs...didn't hurt my chances much. I'm pretty sure that a couple of the Ws were retakes too.

it's a risk. just know that anything not an A is going to make it harder for you to get an interview and harder to explain in interview. it's definitely not recommended to get anything less than an A, but if it happens be ready for an uphill battle.
