In light of a recent acceptance, I would like to withdraw my application from an offshore school that I know I would not attend if accepted since I've been accepted in the US. I prefer to stay in the US for practical and financial reasons, and I don't want to take away the adcom's time (at the other offshore school) from other applicants. Does anyone know if there is a formal process for withdrawing an application, or would an e-mail to the admissions office stating that I no longer wish to be considered for admission suffice? Or does it vary by school?

Thanks in advance for any insight you might have!

I think Penn said to send an email if you wish to withdraw your app. Other schools might be different. I'd call the admissions office rather than email if at all possible. That way, either way, you get it taken care of correctly.

BTW, congrats! I wish I was having that kind of problem!

Hmm, you're probably right about calling... except calling Canada sounds hard and expensive... maybe I'll just save thinking about this until after Christmas. 😛

Thanks for your input - and thanks for the congrats!!

Just email them. If they need something more formal they will let you know.

I'd email, but I like to have things in writing. If you need to do anything additional, they will let you know.

(does Canada count as offshore?😉)

I haven't a clue as to why they would need anything more formal. I mean, if they don't withdraw your application... the most that could happen is you are accepted, and reject their invitation.

Your thinking of it from the wrong point of view. Some schools worry about getting a call from a student in April going "Why was my application withdrawn!?! I never did that! You must have screwed something up."

True, I never thought of it that way. However, I think an e-mail from the e-mail address on file from VMCAS might be sufficient.

kinda relates to this thread.. i got accepted into OSU yesterday so now im not sure what to do about iowa and missouri since i have interviews at both.. putting myself through the stress of going to two more interviews when i would love/can see myself going to OSU as well as the probably 800$ it will cost me to go seems silly, plus i dont want to waste anyones time and take an interview spot from someone who reallllly wants it.. but on the other hand, if i dont go will i always regret it, not knowing what could have been and could i really like the school more and the programs it has to offer? i guess no one can really answer that but myself, but its got my head spinning and i was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat

congratulations to the other OSU people that found out yesterday 🙂 future classmates?? and crossing my fingers for everyone else that still has to hear 👍

I was in a similar position when I applied. My advice is to go ahead with the interviews if you can afford it. You applied to those schools for a reason and likely that reason still applies. It is possible that you will fall in love with one of the those schools and if you don't go you may always wonder what if.....

So I would go if possible.

Good luck!

I'm thinking about withdrawing my name from some of the lower schools on my list but I'm going to wait until I get another acceptance (if that happens) just in case something goes horribly wrong and OSU cancels the class of 2014 or something.

haha that may happen, while i LOVE OSU, its OOS for me and since i have an IS school, my parents are banking on me getting in there and not choosing OSU over MSU because of money.. although im paying so not sure why they really care and of course i actually have to get into MSU before i would need to decide that lol
