i don't think it matters whether email/letter makes it bad...but just withdraw! I'm sure there are many people who would appreciate it.
i, myself, don't know how the procedure works, but i'm just going to email the schools and tell them i want to cancel the scheduled interviewed dates...and for other schools...to withdraw the application. B/c emails are A LOT easier than letters!
