So I have spent 4 years getting nearly 3.9 semester gpas to remedy a horrible first two years (many F's and W's.) This is my final semester of college and my AMCAS overall will be around a 3.4-3.45 and the BCMP will be around 3.8. I am taking a 5 credit math course (19 credit hrs. total.) I am worried that I might end up with a C. Because I have so many credits, my overall shouldn't budge, and my BCPM might go down a little. I would like to withdrawl, so that I can study for the MCAT and get some peace of mind. However, I am worried that despite my upward trend, a W on my transcript after such a long streak of doing really well will damage my application significantly. Any thoughts on how a W would look given this situation?

As long as your W's are not in the same class for example you took the math class, dropped it, and took it again and dropped it then its okay. They are more interested in you overall gpa and science gpa and mcat.

So if you dont have too many W's in the same classes then just drop it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tons of Ws, however. But they are long behind me (over four years ago.) What I am worried about is that I have done so well for a such long period of time to show that my overall gpa is not indicative of my capability, and that a W on my final semester after a four year hiatus from Ws and bad grades will "rock the boat" that is my upward trend. In other words, a 3.4 overall is pushing it for MD schools, despite the 3.8 BCMP. But, I have 4 years of 3.9ish gpas. Now all of a sudden in my last semester, I am considering withdrawing. Ugh. Any additional thoughts on how this might look?

Dude if you think a W is going to "rock your boat" a C in a 5 hour class will probably Sink your boat!

I think a W would be better than a C, especially since it's 5 credits. I would drop the class, because it definitely seems like the lesser of two evils.

Much appreciated. I think it might be time to cut my losses. Any other opinions are appreciated.
