Hello everyone! I was just wondering if taking a W grade in an elective class would hurt my chances at med school. I am currently a senior undergraduate biochemistry major who has taken the MCATs and already submitted the primary apps for both MD and DO schools. The course that I want to withdraw from is computer science II which would have contributed to my bioinformatics minor, but since I am thinking of switching minors I don't really need the course anymore. Normally I would stick with it and finish, but I've discovered that I'm not that great with computer science and I figured I would rather take a 'W' than a C or D which would hurt my GPA. Thoughts? And thanks for your time!

I think you should drop the class and take the W, especially since it is not a class that you need for med school. If you are really worried about it still though, I would contact some of the med schools you applied to and see what they think about it. Good luck!

Switching minors as a senior w/ a biochem degree from computer science to ... what?

Drop the class. The med schools won't care, because you seem to have a pretty good reason and it is not your focus anyway. Just be explicit about why you chose to do it, because you may be asked about it. These are pretty reasonable people, tell them your reasons.

drop it like its hot... one W in an elective is a non issue
