Sorry, I know there have been other threads on this but I had never considered it as an issue (my fault) and so had never gone looking for those threads.

I have 4 LORS (1 from physician and 3 from professors). The physician is a family member of mine that I worked at their clinic for multiple years. I have done shadowing with other doctors but this is my most extensive experience, so that's why I got the LOR from them. It has been brought to my attention that I should not have done this or at the very least disclosed it.

So right now I just want to know what I can do. I submitted to both TMDSAS and AMCAS. The TMDSAS application has already been verified and most secondaries even submitted. How do I withdraw the LOR at this point?
The AMCAS application has not been verified yet so that might be an easier process but still don't know the best way to withdraw the LOR.
At this point I wouldn't be able to get another physician LOR in time so I guess I'll just have to roll the dice on that.

Any advice?

Once a letter is submitted it can’t be taken back.
Therefore, it’s too late for TMDSAS.

On AMCAS, however, you can choose not to assign that letter to any future schools you add.

Very few MD schools require a letter from an MD.
If the relative is not your mom or dad it’s probably ok but they still are probably biased to praise you

The LOR is from my uncle.

For AMCAS, if I've already assigned those letters to schools then I can't withdraw it even if the application hasn't been verified yet? The only thing I can do is not assign it to future schools (of which I don't have any right now)?

Should I attempt to get ahead of it by reaching out and disclosing it to the individual schools? I'm not even sure how that would work. If I don't even get an interview invite then in one sense there is no point in reaching out to them about it. But then again, what if I don't get an invite because of this? I'm probably overthinking this. lol

And will this likely come up in the actual interview?

Unless you have the same last name as your uncle I doubt it'll come up. If you do share the same last name maybe an attentive adcom would notice and ask about it.

Yes, same last name. Not a rare last name (common enough for my nationality) but the same. I guess I'll just have to deal with it as it comes, if it comes. If they ask then I'll just disclose it as I would have if I had sent out a letter.

At my school, we would probably notice the name and just disregard the letter. You wouldn’t be the first!

I'll take that. I still have 3 LORs. I just didn't want it to be looked more harshly like it was dishonest and manipulative.
