I was wondering how withdrawls on my undergraduate transcript will look. I read the allopathic thread, but it wasn't really clear if schools were indifferent or if they were understanding based on individual circumstances. My W's are not withdraw/fails. They were just plain 'ole withdrawls, but I have 4 or 5 (due to personal difficulties +pity+ ). Otherwise, I have a GPA 3.72 and an ok MCAT of 29Q with DO shadowing experience and volunteering. Thoughts...? Any med students out there who had multiple withdrawls?

I had an entire semester withdrawn when I transferred after my freshman year. I was asked briefly about it in the interview and I told them I didn't withdraw from school, I was actually enrolled in another school but was required to register for fall before the end of my freshman spring semester. He said "Oh, ok, I'll put a note in your file then." That was it.

If they were all at the same time it'll probably be easier to explain like I did. If they're one semester after another, you might want to work on a good response to that question.

As far as on your transcript before an interview is granted, it's a guess but I'd guess it won't stop you from being interviewed if you have a good solid application.

Overall my impression is that they're simply going to want a good explanation for what happened so they can feel secure it won't happen while you're in medical school.

Good luck in the process!

For us, they may saise an eyebrow on the Adcom members who do the interviewing, but almost never are an issue. If the candidate is marginal (not something in your case), then it might be enough to put someone on a lower priority wait list.

You'll be fine with your stats as long as you have a concise and reasonable explanation. I dropped 4 classes my 2nd semester of college (all W's) and made an F in intermediate algebra because I forgot to drop it (found out I was exempt due to SAT scores). I also dropped bio 1 with a W two semesters later because I didn't know how to study. I felt like an idiot but didn't really care at the time because I had no clue what I wanted to do and didn't understand the drop policy for college. I blame myself mostly, but it also goes to show how well a public high school education prepares students to be independent problem solvers.

Anyway I interviewed at 3 schools with 3.27o 3.2s and 29N and the only one to bring it up was LECOM-B. The interview there was my first and it was pretty terrible. After my fumbling explanation to my drops I mistakenly said "so I was sure not to drop any more classes" he goes "yeah well what about dropping bio1 here". Haha they still waitlisted me at least.

haha nice. I'm hoping not to fumble through my explanation. Thank you all for your advice. I am still apprehensive about my interview, but I feel a little more confident. 👍
