Wondering when/how to get some experience

Hello!

I am a second semester freshman under-graduate with my mind set on optometry. I am aware of the fact that I need to get as much experience as possible during my under-grad years. However, I do not really know how to go about looking for opportunities. I was hoping someone here could give me some advice on how to find ways of getting experience in the field.

I would suggest going to visit with YOUR Optometrist and asking him/her if you can shadow. If not, then just look in the yellow pages and see what Optometrist are in your area. Just call them up and ask if they are looking for part-time help. If they say no, then go to the next one. Solo private practices are less likely to need help as they tend to have less turnover. Multi-dr. clinics and corporate are going to be easier to get into. Good luck!
