We just finished our last class of the semester 😀 The two finals next week should be no problem, and then on Friday, Rachel and I are hopping a plane to Florida to stay with her snow-bunny grandparents for a week. Can't wait!

So, in celebration, my question to all the dental students is this: what has been the highlight of your semester?

Mine was in anatomy lab, dissecting the anterior cervical triangle, when the TA was explaining the similarities between the TMJ and the sternoclavicular joint. He was explaining the disc, compartments, etc, and I wanted to see for myself. I grabbed the clavicle where we'd sawed a section out, and started yanking on it. After a few tried, it finally popped off--it sounded like a chicken bone breaking, except 50 times as loud.

The lab instantly got quiet as a tomb. Everyone started looking around to see what the noise was, and when the girls nearby realized what had happened, they all went absolutely spastic 😀 Great times.

My highlight comes in two weeks when the semester is over and we all get drunk.

Bill, I'm sending you a private PM, but our schedule for the remainder of the semester is:

Gastro exam on Monday (8th)
Start Urinary/Kidney module on Monday (8th)
Urinary/Kidney exam on Monday (15th)
Start OB/GYN module on Monday (15th)
OB/GYN exam on Friday (19th)

...THEN the semester is over!

The highlight of my semester has nothing to do with academics. Rather, it has been getting to know my classmates. Some I know MUCH better than others, and I've made some excellent and lifelong friends. It's really been a blast gaining 15-20 new close friends.

My highlights of this semester defenitely has to be the fact that I played video games and watched movies for almost every non-drinking nights this semester so far.....😀

Yes! I played the hell out of NBA Live this semester.

Mine was getting a 108% on our dental anatomy final. How sweet it was.

How could you get 108% on a test? Especially Anatomy? Let be real, Brand. I do not believe it unless you scan your exam up and let me see.

Isn't maximum score for any class is 100%? Or is it 200% at your school?

Ever hear of extra credit points. Good for those people struggling in anatomy so they dont flunk. Even better for the folks who know their anatomy and want to get over 100%.

So, that's an easy class, easy prof. There is no such thing like that here. We are going for the REAL stuff

Please excuse my stupidity:laugh:

Can you explain more on this ob/gyn class. I am goign to start my freshman year next year and never heard of a ob/gyn class in dental school. What do we learn/do? And is this class only offered at some schools? 😀

Class average was about 85 or so. 108 was the high. The class average in just about every class is around 85.

It must be nice. If we had a class average of 85 in anything the professors would definitely make the next test harder. Bell curve all the way, baby. 😉

The class is evenly divided between obstetrics and gynecology.

We finished the gyn portion yesterday and are beginning obstetrics today.

The Gyn professor was an MD from an Alabama medical school.

The Ob professor is an MD from the same school.

You learn basic hormone function, structure, abnormal pathology, complications, and implications to dentistry (such as OCP users have 2-3 times greater risk of developing drysocket with molar removal, due to the effects of estrogen on clotting factors).

Stuff like that.

I think the ONLY other school it MIGHT be offered at is UConn. UConn has a very comprehensive biomedical education, but I don't know if even they offer an OB/GYN course.

Yes, UCONN does, and to be honest with you, the vast amount of knowledge that I acquired during those 2 weeks of the Reproduction Course(atleast that was the title when I took it) that I use often does more with the hormonal changes that can lead to the onset of pregnancy ginigivitis than anything else.

Although as I remember with the hormonal regulation and mood swings, it now explains alot of my wife's actions during her 9th month of pregnancy😱 😀

Jeff, that's what I thought. I know UConn puts it's students through the "ringer" with biomedical sciences. Our curriculum here at Arizona may be the only other one that is equally broad.
