Hi,

I am close to giving up on this: spent about 1.5 days on 'Figures,' six pages , one figure per page, and attempted to copy/paste figures (insert, shapes, Word 2010) into the original document. Doesn't work since the figures get distorted and I have to reformat rectangles, arrows, everything. If I add text within the document, the figures again move and I am back to square one.

Anybody here computer savvy?? 😕

Thx,
Ms. Phipps

Not entirely clear from your post what the problem is, but I often find it is MUCH easier to create figures in other programs (powerpoint for charts, Sigmaplot/Excel for graphs, etc.), then save the whole thing as an image and import that. I'd never recommend using Word itself for anything but the absolute basics for graphics/figures.

If you tell us a little more about what you are trying to do, we might be able to give more specific pointers. Like I said, I'm not entirely certain what the issue you are running into is - it sounds like you are copy-pasting figures from another source, and then trying to edit/add to them in Word?

Well, I was creating figures in Word and graphs/charts/pies in excel which worked well. I tried to important figures I created in Word in separate documents into my text which is my thesis. I was trying to import the figures as images and it did not work. So, maybe, try copy them into powerpoint?? I would hate to re-do them since I worked very hard and long hours on them...

do you get a better idea what I did...?

Thanks!!

OMG! Just copied figures into powerpoint and than copied powerpoints into entire document. It works!! Thanks Ollie. Saved my day and hours of additional labor!! 🙂

Not really....

You created the figures in Word, and are now trying to move it to another word document? So you are going from Word > Word? I have no idea why you wouldn't be able to import them as images as long as you saved them that way.

Worst comes to worst, get it formatted as you originally want it in the original document, hit printscreen and paste the image in powerpoint, crop out the junk, and save the slide as a jpeg/TIFF/whatever else. Its an ugly solution, but if you can't get things as image files that will certainly do it. If you have image files already, I have no idea why you wouldn't be able to import them as images - I do this all the time and have never had a problem. As long as you have them all as one single file, you may need to resize the whole thing to fit it on the page how you want, but that's about it. What happens when you try to import as an image?

Edit: Whatever it was, apparently you got it now. Glad to help!
