Im in the process of filling out this section of the application and I wanted to get an opinion on a few things..

I was part of an Athletic Injury Mentor program for high school athletes and Im trying to figure out if I classify this as comm service medical/clinical or comm service non-medical/clinical. I figured the latter but wanted to double check.

Also, if I was part of a sports team, is it okay to list the varsity sport separate from the leadership role that i had as a captain on the team? I really wanted to be able to list this under leadership and didnt want to just group it under the broad category of the varsity sport.

Lastly, I am being published as one of the authors on a publication which was submitted to Cancer Research a few months ago. Do I list this separately and then explain that it is in the process of being submitted/published?

Thanks!!!

You might be overthinking all this stuff a little bit ;-). Relax!
The first doesn't really matter. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Only you know the exact nature of the job. If you're leaning toward the second, then that's your answer.
For the second, I would list them together and just talk about how important the leadership part was to your sport team experience.
Third, congratz. I would probably include that as part of the research activity.

1) I was part of an Athletic Injury Mentor program for high school athletes and Im trying to figure out if I classify this as comm service medical/clinical or comm service non-medical/clinical. I figured the latter but wanted to double check.

2) Also, if I was part of a sports team, is it okay to list the varsity sport separate from the leadership role that i had as a captain on the team? I really wanted to be able to list this under leadership and didnt want to just group it under the broad category of the varsity sport.

3) Lastly, I am being published as one of the authors on a publication which was submitted to Cancer Research a few months ago. Do I list this separately and then explain that it is in the process of being submitted/published?
1) It depends on your role. If you assisted with rehab exercises, for example, it would be clinical.

2) You may devide this into two activities if you have plenty to say about each (and if you don't count the hours twice), or alternatively, designate it as a "Most Meaningful" activity to give yourself enough room to fit everything you want to say in one space if you are running short of spots.

3) Until the paper is accepted, you would never list it under Publications. (But it can be listed under Publications even if it has not yet appeared in print, by using the acceptance date and putting "in press" in the citation.) I agree that a submitted, but not yet accepted paper should be mentioned at the end of the related Research entry. With 5 months to go, hopefully, you will hear good news before your AMCAS submission date.

BTW, when the new AMCAS application comes out in May, historically everything has needed to be re-entered except for some of your personal information (unless you previously submitted/paid a fee to AMCAS). So be sure to print off a copy of the experiences section when you're done.

Thanks so much for your help. I didn't realize that I was going to have to transfer all of my information into the new application in May but I appreciate the heads up. That will save me a lot of frustration.

In terms of the second point that you made.. the reason that I am likely going to separate the varsity sport with the leadership role is because I got injured after my second year participating in the actual sport and continued as captain of the team despite not being able to compete. I hope that is enough of a difference to warrant listing them separately.

Thank you again for your help!!
