Working 10 or more straight days in retail

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
10 days + is common. You will get used to it.

My tip to you is - take it slow. Just do enough to get by.

When I first started, I got burned out working a lot of days because I would go in trying to be a super star. I'll fix messes, run around covering stations, stay behind for a while to clean up, and a lot more. I have since learned to take it easy and do enough to stay under the radar.

The best advice here.

More proof that pharmacists are some of the whiniest people on the planet. Half the work load of a banker, real resident, and small business owners and it's never enough. See why it's so hard to take some of you seriously?

Yeah, but those people you mentioned will actually see the fruition of their hard work in terms of monetary or other means. It's a little different for a regular staff pharmacist. It doesn't matter how hard you work, you will still get the same pay and the same treatment. That's why you see comments like "just stay under the radar". I have worked with plenty of lazy ass pharmacists... other than all the techs hate those pharmacists, everything else is the same between them and a hard working pharmacist. If a company actually recognizes everyone's hard work in some way, then I think there won't be so much complaining.

That's one of the reasons you see pharmacy students bust their asses trying to make an impression, because their future career is on the line. It's the same concept.

When you see comments like "stay under the radar" it doesn't mean the RPh is a lazy pharmacist. That RPh is probably the smarter pharmacist.

The only way you keep your sanity and keep healthy working many days in a row in retail is to not overwork yourself.

The comments in this thread are right. In retail, especially chains, it doesn't matter how hard you work. There is no recognition. In my opinion, and no offense to anyone, the dumb people are those that bust their butts every day hoping to get recognition and climb their way up. In reality what happens is they work too hard and wind up getting a customer complaint. The guy who did the bare bones minimum just to float on by will probably get appreciation for doing a great job by their boss. I see this time and time again.

Yeah that's what I meant. I didn't say "fly under the radar" means lazy... I was just saying I have worked with lazy pharmacists... I used to bust my ass in the beginning too... Now I try not todo that anymore because I realized that no one actually cares...

I honestly don't understand the doom and gloom, trashing of the profession (yes, I said profession), and negative outlook on everything that people have. I support being realistic, but in reality the doom and gloom presented by some is no where near as bad as things are in reality, working in a pharmacy is also not comparable to a sweat shop nor is a pharmacist rationally comparable to a McDonald's worker.

But then again I'll probably be written off as a "naive student listening to what I'm spoonfed by institutions that want my money with minimal real world experience."

As a student you are probably used to being poor, and had your fill of it. But I ask you, what is the use of all that money, if you never enjoy it?

Raise kids? How would he find a wife, working 10 or more days nonstop?

Money is no substitute for youth

waaa 10 days. put your life in perspective.

I used to do 40 (working 2 shifts in 2 different jobs in one day on some of those days). I know guys that go 365/yr. It's still way better than hard labor almost anywhere else in the world.

Another perspective: Work ass off nonstop to keep fat banks fat

Unless you are putting together millions in a bid to retire early or make some phat investments, seems like a dubious deal
