Just want to get an opinion from any pharmacists who is working for walmart. What is it like? I heard the computer system is very good. Do the company treat the employee well?

Im a pharm tech at walmart so I have a good idea of the conditions. Most of the shifts are 12 hrs (9-9pm) with exception to weekends Sat 9-7 and sun 10-6. Pharmacists rotate 4 on, 3 off averaging to 40/week every 2 weeks. Its usually one pharmacist on each day except mons and tues when we have 2. they get one 30 min break for lunch. The computer system is really good in my opinion, although i havent had much experience with others. Id say its very easy to use with a lot of prevention measures for mistakes.

In terms of pay, I heard it is above average, more than CVS in my area.

For me, I couldnt do it. I wouldnt want to work the whole day on some days while having the whole day off on others. 12hrs is way to long to be standing for

the computer system there is awesome. i did my IPPE there and everyone there seemed to love their job. can't generalize every pharmacy based off this though.

Yeh, just finish an interview with Walmart. So it appear RPh there do work 12-hr shift. I guess that's something I have to get use to. Next step is to find comfy shoe yet can give me some height

I dont know about pharmacists but I loved it as a tech and definitely would return if get hire as a pharmacist once gradutate.

I'm not a pharmacist, but I am a tech with walmart. Not every store will require 12-hour shifts. At my store we are open from 9-9 on weekdays and have a pharmacist work 8-6 and another work 11-9. There is some flex in the schedule (depending mostly on script volume that day), but mostly they work 10 hours shifts at my store and they also get significant overlap. Not too shabby if you ask me 🙂

I'm a WM tech in Southern California. In the area round my store, there are usually 2 main pharmacists for 1 store with 1 floater goes around for weekends. First pharmacist works 9-6pm then another works from 12-9pm. They take turn to work, too (1 week opening, 1 week closing). My store is the slowest store in the area (make 130 for a day 🙂)) but with 2 MAIN PHARMACISTS, 1 FLOATER, 3 TECHNICIAN and 1 CLERK :meanie: (I don't get what my manager's thinking 😕). Anyway, he can hire like that 😀. And I think the pharmacist's work load is easy or crazy depending on the tech. If I work, I will do everything for them 😀. They just stay there just check and check or sometimes call around to chit chat with the other pharmacists :meanie:.

I worked at the store across from the home office as a tech before starting school, and we averaged around 1,000 rxs a day during the week, working 4-5 pharmacists a day

Shifts were usually 7-3, 11-7, 12-8, and 1-9

We had 2 pharmacists on Saturday and Sunday

It all depends on the store. The computer system is pretty good it seems

The computer system is one of the best I've heard about and is constantly being updated, albeit slowly. Pharmacy managers manage costs (through inventory management and drug orders) while maximizing sales through higher script counts and OTC sales to determine their annual bonus. Staff pharmacists are relatively well-off with less responsibility. The store's sales figures (particularly OTC department) and prescription volume may influence your technician hours and workload; each store is unique. Because it's a huge corporation, following standard operating procedure is an absolute must. The pay is typically more competitive than other pharmacies. Pharmacists are allowed to make 6 errors in about a 2 year period. This is less than most competitors, but still reasonable. Overall, if I were to practice in a community setting Walmart would be my top choice.

I'm also interested in Walmart, so this thread is super helpful. Do you know if Walmart pharmacists vaccinate at this point? From reading the Walmart website, it looks like they have nurse-run immunization clinics, rather than providing vaccines through the pharmacy.

Yep, that's how it works at my store at least. The nurses come and set up a clinic outside the pharmacy. The extent of your involvement with it is simply answering 500 phone calls asking when the nurses will be there.😉
