Working in my potential PI's lab for a year while applying to md phd/dmd phd

i am curious. If i work in my potential PI's laboratory as a researh assistant this yr and then come back 3 yrs later as a phd student, do i have any chance to complete my mdphd or dmdphd quicker?

Some people do... The only problem is that the science might significantly move on during your 2-year hiatus in med school. Having said that, I have seen some students finish within 3-4 years with 4-5 publications.
