How much would a work experience in sales affect my acceptance to a clinical program at a University (masters or PharmD) or at a hospital? I recently graduated and have some experience in retail and now i'm in sales.

As alot of other people on here will tell you, spending any time out of a hospital after graduation does not look good on your resume for residency. You will not get a residency in a big name university hospital, i can tell you that. Residencies are getting more and more competitive each year and working in sales is even worse than retail. If you want to due a residency, get involved in pharmacy organizations for the next year and if you can, get a job at a hospital. You will have to set your sites pretty low on the caliber of residency you will be able to get.

Agreed. Do NOT work retail or anything outside of the hospital after graduation if you want to do residency later. Doing so will make you look like you sold out or not serious about wanting to do clinical work. Go work as a staff pharmacist in a hospital if you need money now, and the hospital experience might even give you a leg up competing for a residency.
