working the first year

Did anyone work during the school year (especially their first year)? Is it possible? If so, what would you recommend being the max amount of hours I should work?

Depends on your class schedule and your study habits. I don't think anyone can really answer this that isn't in your shoes. My suggestion is wait, see how intense your classes are, and then get a job if you feel you can fit it in.
