Working while in D-School - Any ideas?

Hey yall,
Due to some recent family trials, I find myself in need of money to help out. I am just curious to know what type of work others have done during dental school that atleast pays somewhat decent and is somewhat accomodating to being in school 8-5 M-F (I'm a 3rd year in clinic mostly) ??? What's decent pay? There are a few people in my class who have worked retail. They love people working on the weekend, but pay isn't "decent".

If the money is needed for family other that your spouse/children- you are simply not at the right place in your life to help out. Focus on school and you will be able to help in a few years. I come from a family with a history of drama- much of it self induced. Sorry to sound cynical, but you have to stay focused and finish school. Another option may be more student loans? Good luck!

i was able to get a job on campus; i worked in the sim lab after hours. pay sucked; i think it was around $8/hr, but i had to be there anyway to catch up on lab work so it was free money

Starting in my second year I was doing lawn/garden on the weekends. The work was for a wealth business man that owned a nice house on a bluff with a million dollar view. My roommate and I would often do yard beautification for him on Saturday morning and he would have a garden party for the "movers and shakers" of the community on Saturday night. Anyway the word got out around the school about us. By our third year we were asked by all kinds of facility and staff to do lawn/garden work. We had to raise our rates as were getting more job offers then we could do.

I wasn't making enough to pay my way through school but it was buying my gas and groceries. Most importantly, it was giving me good physical activity, in the outdoors and away from the school environment. I am convened that this job helped me keep me centered and sane during my last half of dental school

Just curious if you do your own landscaping now or if you hire it out?

I still enjoy lawn and garden work. I am lucky enough to have 3 acres in the country to ply my handicraft upon.
--HOWEVER-- I am now older and have money. If it involves heavy "grunt work" I have my healthy 20 year old son do it or I hire it out.
