World Ranking of Dental Schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Zero credibility. School rankings don't matter and no one reputable has done rankings in over a decade.

Methodology:

1. Academic Reputation "Having provided their name, contact details, job title and the institution where they are based, respondents identify the countries, regions and faculty areas they have most familiarity with"....yeah, that matters

2. Employer Reputation: 'Employers are asked to identify up to 10 domestic and 30 international institutions they consider excellent for the recruitment of graduates. They are also asked to identify from which disciplines they prefer to recruit. After examining where these two questions intersect, we can infer a measure of excellence in a given discipline.".....well, given most dentists are recruited out of dental school, I'm sure that is really important...not to mention most dentists are self-employed and not recruited.

3. Research Citations: 'Due to the impracticality of reliably gathering faculty numbers broken down by discipline, for the purposes of the QS World University Rankings by Subject we measure citations per paper rather than per faculty member.' Great, your dental instructors are worried about writing papers and not worried about teaching....not sure why that is a good thing??

Meaningless......

Not saying this list has credibility. Well for point #2, I would say most dentists are recruited when they begin their careers. I do not think many people are willing to take in more debt to buy a practice that may or may not be successful when they already have hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt already. For #3, all schools are given higher rankings if they contribute more to the advancement of the profession or sciences relating to it. This is seen in undergrad, med school etc. Who relies on teachers anyway, self studying is the way to go.

How do you rank a school? Based on students' GPAs, board scores? But those are not universal though. Hmmmm

I'll say it once again, dental schools are not ranked. Any ranking you see is completely subjective.

UMich has this on their school site and I'll be proud to rep the #1 school in the nation for the next 4 years🙂
Funny because USC is usually ranked pretty low and they put a little slip in their interview folder saying "don't trust rankings, none of them are credible." lol they're right that rankings are entirely subjective but it's just funny seeing one school boast about them and another trying to attack their credibility

According to this rating, NYU is better than UPenn, Columbia, and UCSF. Enough said
NYU probably trumps those schools in name recognition because they have so many graduates lol. I would say you would get a better clinical experience at NYU. Research, basic sciences, and specializing the other 3 win though.

I guess you're right.. I also heard that training in aesthetics at NYU is second to none.

Yeah I guess the location has a lot to do with NYU's success. Still the rankings are useless lol

lol this list sux...dominated by schools that are filled with 'the top tenth of one percent"

HOWARD UNIVERSITY IS THE TOP SCHOOL IN THE WORLD......it's a school for the 99%

there is no ranking for dental school

you go to the school that saves you the most money

there are schools to avoid, however.... which are the expensive new schools associated with DO programs
such as Western in Pomona, Midwestern AZ/IL, Nova, LECOM, Roseman etc.

and most people think UPenn, Columbia, Harvard are the best because they are ivy leagues, but this is not necessarily true either.
