I have been reading posts for a little while and I finally decided to start one of my own. Here's my situation: I am an undergraduate planning to apply this coming summer. I won't be able to study for the DAT until May 1st (end of Spring semester) because I am doing research (20hrs/wk) and full time course load. I am unsure when I should take the DAT and submit my application because I know that it is desirable to be an early applicant.

Here are my stats:
Overall GPA: 3.85
sGPA: 4.0
Extras: research (organic) including a thesis, honors college, pre-dental society member, volunteer @ hospital (30 hrs), shadowing (50 hrs).

I would feel comfortable taking the DAT on July 1st. But would that make me a late applicant?

Thank you to everyone.

You can submit your application prior to take the DAT. July 1st is okay. My advisor likes to have people done before the end of June, so you're safe. I took mine 6/28 and had interview invites shortly thereafter.

July 1st should be fine. you will still be considered "early" and will get plenty of interviews with your GPA and a decent DAT score!

Only thing is, submit EVERYTHING ELSE before July 1st, so that you can get the ball rolling with your transcript, LOR, essay, etc. good luck!

I took dat in September, complete mid october, and received 15 interviews and your gpa's and extracurricular are much better than me and I am a white male.

I think you will be fine, especially with a strong dat.

I have been stressing over nothing then. Everything seems so competitive you feel like if you are not done with your DAT before May you are late. You all made me feel really good about my situation. If anyone has anything to add or any personal experiences, I would love to hear them.

with those stats my friend, you will be fine...get a decent DAT score and ull be ok..if u submit in july ur still in good shape, so dont trip about it

The sooner you submit your app with everything the better your chances of getting accepted during that cycle (for this to count everything has to be there to include letters and DAT's). If you can't get things done by late to early July than I would advise maybe thinking about taking a year off and applying the next year. Hope this helps and good luck!!

the earlier the better, but with that gpa, you don't have much to worry about even if you aren't super early. As long as you do well on your DAT, and you get everything else in before july 1st, you should be fine.
my gpa was slightly lower than yours and my DAT wasn't amazing and I submitted my app in august and still got in everywhere I wanted, so you have nothing to worry about.
Good luck!

you have nothing to worry about! i took my DAT on Sept 30th and have gotten into my top choice plus have an interview at Harvard coming up.
