I took the 6/20/13 MCAT and have already submitted my AMCAS for 2014 admission (working on secondaries now) and I stupidly forgot that several schools require two semesters of math. I already have taken 1 semester of statistics but I have not taken calculus yet (only took precalc in high school).

Out of the schools I am applying to, Albert Einstein, Mt. Sinai and Florida Int'l require 2 semesters of college math while Brown requires 1 semester calculus.

I was considering doing a Americorps Healthcorps position at a local community health center but if I take this class I may just do unpaid research with a surgeon and then hopefully get a part-time job or just do other volunteering (the AmeriCorps position schedule would interfere with the calc class).

Is it worth it to take calc? I already sent AMCAS to those schools and I don't want to waste the money -- but I would appreciate any second opinions on if it makes sense to take the class or not. Americorps doesn't seem like it would be the greatest thing to do anyways during the gap yr-- so would the class/research/hopefully part-time job combo be better?

Thanks.

Statistics seems to be on the rise among medical school prerequisites for math. Do 1 sem calc, 1 sem stat to cover your bases.

Calc sounds like a huge time commitment. I think it really depends on what sort of math you think is "fun." More schools want statistics than calculus. You might want to take Stats 2, if your school offers it, or even an algebra or trig class.

taking a gap year- I have calc I already done, but only stats through my psych department.

I was looking to take some bcmp classes if I could- would probability and statistics be worth it?

But will medical schools be okay with me taking calculus or a second semester of statistics in Fall 2013 during my gap year since I am currently applying for 2014 admission-- should I just try and mention it on all my secondaries to let them know?

I didn't add the course on AMCAS (already submitted) so how do I go about making sure med schools will see that I took the course?

Thanks.

Just do it at a cc and get it over with.

pretty sure as long as you do it before matriculation you will be fine.
