Which college would you choose and why? If you are a student or have a friend that attends one of these medical schools I would very much appreciate your advice.

Hmmm...I interviewed at NY Med and VCU....

I think between those two I would probably pick VCU...The location is nicer compared to NY Med...NY med is in the middle of no where and Richmond is nice....The studnets at VCU seemed really cool and down to earth....

ACtually I think I might pick UC-Irvine over all these even though I don't know anything about the school---My aunt lives in Irvine, CA--Gosh it's pretty there and the weather would be awesome.....

Also is it cheaper for you to go to UC Irvine cuz you are in state? If so I would seriously consider going there. You will be very happy that you saved yourself money in the long run...I would assume that Albany, NYMC, and VCU are not tons better academically and in that case if irvine is cheaper go there 🙂

Try posting this to the allopathic board if you haven't already you might find some students that go to these schools...

It looks like you are a CA resident. I personally would choose UCI because of proximity to family, etc. and the huge savings in cost over 4 years.

But, you may value other things.

about irvine,
one of my letter writers used to be faculty at the med school there. when i told him i was applying there, he told me that irvine shouldn't even have a medical school.
but you are cali so go for irvine, cheaper, closer, family, etc.

calimed stop showing off. others here don't wanna see that kind of stuff right now (or ever).

go to usnews.com and compare the schools. they have a program that lists their info side by side. UCI looks more selective and has higher requirements as far as stats. anyway i already compared them. UCI wins. plus if you want instate residency, at UCI over 80% get state residency. so there you have it. plus the weather is better. now stop torturing me and others with this meaningless question. other than telling you stats you won't get much help from us (occasionally you'll get an opinion..a very subjective one, which you won't even consider when making your decision).

this goes to everyone that loves to show us where they got in and ask dumb questions like "which one is better guys?" please people, you can figure out which one is better. think about what advice you'll be getting and if it's more helpful than what you can get on your own, then factor in how many people you're annoying (multiply this by 15 since many people come to this board just to read, but rarely post-plus count me twice!!). that should help you figure out if it's worth it to ask us that question. do you really need to build up your confidence by bragging about where you were accepted? i should hope not!
remember, just because you're not being rude about it, doesn't mean you're not bragging. just my opinion, you can take it or you can take it.

I want to clear things up a little; I am not accepted in all these schools, didn't mean to give that impression. I have one acceptance and I am very happy to have it. The other schools are hopefuls...schools that I feel I may have a chance with (like everyone else who is waiting). I am more than likely to end up on the east coast. Irvine is just another possibility but my interview there did not go as well as I would have liked. The student who interviewed me was ruthless. I use SDN in hopes to hear information you can't get from web site, and believe me I check all the web sites but I like student to student the best. I have had good interview at the other schools and my stats are just O.K. (average to low MCAT with a high gpa) so I am planning ahead with wishful thinking and hoping for one more acceptance. This is a stressful time of our lives and my intensions were not to brag. The last thing I want to do is make someone feel bad. I wish you the best of luck.

Also about Virginia Commonwealth, haven't even interviewed there yet. They are suppose to send an interview date. Just looking for input about the college.

if u got into all those schools, u should pick uc irvine. I went there for an undergard. it's a great school, clean campus, nice people, last year they had 100% rate on the USMLE. not bad for a school that would cost you only a frac. of others. pick uci and become an anteater.

Since very few people seem to know about VCU/MCV, I will throw out my thoughts. I really liked the school when I visited for a few reasons:
1. The clinical experience there is unmatched. The main hospital there is one of the largest medical centers in VA and apparently one of the largest on a Medical Schools campus(i.e. main hospital on campus has &gt;1000 beds). However it is in Richmond not Boston, so there are far fewer hospitals. But this facility provides incredible training, and the curriculum allows study in the DC/Fairfax area hospitals also.
2. The curriculum is blocked, and students say class gets out before 12 most days. H/P/F grading allows better interaction with classmates.
3. The students are very friendly and diverse. While it is a state school(I am a VA resident so it is cheap for me) there are large numbers of people (~20) from California alone. Plenty of east coasters too.
4. While a small point, the classrooms are great and the student facilities are also very nice.

Finally, my pre-med advisor really liked this school, though it is not as well known as UVA, and said that it provided a great medical education. That was enough for me. She recommended that I go to either UVA or MCV without reservation. I do not know about the other schools, but was recently accepted to VCU/MCV, so I thought I might share some info. Good luck.
