Hey all,

I'm working for a professor that did his phd at the yale graduate school (in the sciences, not specifically in medicine). Would it be beneficial for him to include this information in the letter?

Are you only using this letter for Yale? If so, then yes.

But if you are sending it to a bunch of med schools, then no, you do not want him to put that in the letter.

Hm, I don't know. It would probably help more if he was an MD graduate. One of my recommenders got a letter back from his alma mater stating that his LOR would weigh in heavily because he's an alum.

Can't hurt 🙂

Just have him write a separate letter only for that school. It definitely can be beneficial, especially if he maintains contact with the school.

Yes -e ither have him write a separate letter or do not have him mention Yale in the body of his letter. If he's not willing to write two letters, or you aren't willing to ask him to, perhaps ask him to just write "Yale Class of ___" at the bottom, under his typed name.

yup was planning on just asking him to throw in a couple sentences and submit a second letter.
