Would it unethical to say you will cancel your other interviews if you get accepted to X school?

Hello, I have an interview next week and this school is my #1 choice. Meaning if I get accepted there is less than a 1% chance that I would pick another school.

Would it be ethical to tell the faculty or staff at this #1 school that I would cancel my interviews for other schools and pay my deposity ASAP if I get accepted? (I would say this during my interview)

I genuinely have another interview for another school after the one for my #1 choice, and am waiting on a decision from a third school which I interviewed for in early August.

Thank you!

I think saying something like "I just want to reiterate that your school is my top choice because X, Y, and Z" towards the end of your interview is a more appropriate and effective way of saying what you're trying to get across. It's sort of implied that you will withdraw your other apps if you get into your top choice school.

Saying "I will cancel my other interviews" is a pretty roundabout way of saying the above, especially since they don't really have any way of knowing whether you have 5, 10, or 0 other interviews. You also have to remember that students say "you're my top choice" and renege on that ALL THE TIME, so letters of intent or similar statements made during interviews don't hold significant weight.

Very well said. So going for an indirect approach would be more beneficial. Thank you!

Oh, it's about as ethical as the guy in the bar who says to the hot chick "But I'll really respect you in the morning!!!"

Admissions deans have heard this ad nauseum; they treat it as a lie. Please note that I'm not calling YOU a liar, I'm just reporting what the Deans know from historical data.

You're supposed to pay your deposit if you get accepted.

I wouldn't personally waste my time or breath; you're going out of your way to say something that makes you look desperate. Most of the time, applicants at DO schools are applying there because they have low chances at MD schools (don't get me wrong, I love my school and my choices, so just stay with me here), which means that you have no leverage. The schools know that this is your last resort, and you will most likely attend if accepted. I feel the same way about LOI's for DO schools. They mean next to nothing. Only applicants that are real game changers hold some leverage, and even then it isn't a lot...but these dudes are applying to Harvard, Stanford, JH, and Yale.

Show up with a purpose and passion, be confident, own the day, and you won't have any reason to tell them that this is your first choice school.
