Would letters of intent be appropriate in this case?

Hi! I am applying (in a few days!) and have many concerns about how the cycle might turn out.

I have been told that I might not get interviews at many schools due to the fact that medical schools think I probably wouldn't matriculate (discordant gpa/MCAT). If I am still interview-less in October and November, would it be okay to send a combined letter of intent and update letter as schools could probably infer that if I am sending one that I probably don't have a better offer?

If you wait until October or November, you'll know if you even need to worry about this (and no- you can show intent to a school pre-interview)

But good luck!

LOI mean nothing. Your app tells them that you want to go there.

That was my original thought process but I have been told that many schools might not offer an interview to someone whose MCAT is above their 90th percentile (low-tier schools where my GPA is more in their acceptable range) because they think the person is not likely to matriculate. I am not hopeful about many of the mid-tier type schools because of my GPA.

I would like to just prepare for a Plan B and C just in case things don't pan out. I am definitely staying busy throughout my gap year so I can update schools with activities (I don't know how much weight that will hold though but at least it gives me a reason for updates).

No one is going to turn you down simply because you have a high MCAT score. What are your GPAs?

3.5/3.36s. Downward trend in college but recently finished up a 1 year post bacc with upper division science courses (27 credits or so).
