Would taking the MCAT on May 30th be disadvantageous?

I feel that I am not ready for my test on May 8. I hear that schools won't receive your application until the end of June, and I do plan on submitting everything on the very first minute that it opens. Tentative release date for the May 30th MCAT is July 1st. Can anyone verify or confirm that schools won't receive our applications until the end of June? If so, how much of a disadvantage would it be? I am a CA resident applying to all of the California schools

You'd be at 0 disadvantage. Push it back if you feel you need the time.

If you are confident in your May 30th performance, then you should be at no disadvantage if you submit the first day and don't have your score in till the end of the month. The only disadvantage may be an internal one, in that you will have a harder time selecting schools to apply to without knowing your score.

When I applied, I took my mcat in August and my app was complete in September. I got into med school. Delaying it to the end of May is nothing

Thank you all for the replies. Do you know if it is true that medical schools don't see your application until the end of June?

I do not know if it is true, but taking at the end of May will not disadvantage you. Just don't take it in august lol

I retook my MCAT at the end of July (7/25) this cycle, so I did not get my score back until late August. It was fine to me and I was still able to get accepted. Though I took my MCAT in late July, I submitted my AMCAs mid June and indicated that I will be retaking the MCAT in July. My AMCAS was verified in a month and I received most schools' secondaries a week before my MCAT date. Only a few schools said that they wish to wait until my scores comes in to send me a secondary, but it was fine because I used that time to work on the other secondaries anyways. (I am also from CA and only UC Davis said that they will wait for my MCAT). So you're fine, pushing it back to make sure you're ready won't affect your application. As DoctorWhoo mentioned, you may have a hard time selecting what schools you apply too (like I did) since you don't know your score yet, so you just have to be extra careful when researching for schools.

And yes, to your previous questions. I believed the first month or so is just for AMCAS submissions. The first day this last cycle that AMCAS release your verified applications to medical schools was I think June 27 (or somewhere around there). So you'll be fine for sure even if your scores comes in a few days after the first release date. Good luck on the final push of your study!

Med schools can see your primary application as soon as AMCAS releases them (which I believe is typically mid June for most early applicants).

If you have a low GPA and no MCAT score yet (I'm taking mine in July and GPA <3.0), med schools won't pre-reject you without seeing your MCAT will they? I'm planning to submit AMCAS in early June and just don't want to get rejected for secondaries before they even see my MCAT score.

You can also submit AMCAS with only 1-2 mid-tier schools to get the verification process started, then add the bulk of your schools once you get your MCAT score and can better target schools within your range. Once you're verified, schools you add late get your application immediately (no additional verification time), and most will send you the secondary right away, so you're not really losing much time. Doing this may also help you stagger when you get secondaries so as to make sure you return all of them ASAP.

I hope you are planning on applying to more than just CA schools.
A bulk of my schools will be strictly California schools. I do have other places in mind, but not too many. Of course, this is entirely dependent on my MCAT score

2/3's of CA's fine applicants must leave CA to go to medical school. Even high stats have to go OOS more often than not...

Just a heads up.....there are so many people applying to California schools. 2/3 of California pre-meds have to go out of state for med school. There's just too many of us.

Be careful.

I applied to every CA school plus six others with a 74 LizzyM and didn't get in anywhere. Unless you are including the two DO schools (Western and Touro), then you would be wise to apply more broadly.

I believe I am a good candidate if I get a competitive MCAT score, but thank you for your concern. What I meant was that it will probably be an even split of Cali/OOS. Not moreso applying to more OOS by a huge number
