Ok, if I complete all prereqs by the end of my sophmore year, would it be a good idea (assuming I dedicate the the entire summer to studying) to take the MCAT before my junior year. I'm not looking for the typical, "wait until your jr year so you can get a better score" answer. Would getting it out of the way early like that be good later down the road or does it even make a difference?

Thanks

I can see no benefits to getting it done earlier, unless you think you won't be able to do well a year later. In what way would you see it beneficial?

One possible drawback is your score "expiring" one year earlier, in case you have to reapply.

take some practice tests. if you do well, go for it. i would recommend some biochem before you take it though, it helped me.

there isn't much of an advantage to taking it early aside from getting it out of the way, though.

well
i know some ppl advocate taking the mcat right after finishing the pre-requisites..
so taking it september or something..
+ studying
you might be in good..
because the first one could be good to get a feel for the mcat..
i still think you should put alot of time to study..
maybe try the mcat before the next year.. like in nov?

you never want to "get a feel" for the MCAT by taking the real exam. take practice exams to "get a feel" for it.

always plan on taking the MCAT once. don't take it until you're confident you're going to do as well as you can.

GOING along with this. If you apply after your senior year and do not get in (for which ever reason) you might run into a problem with how long your MCAT is eligible. Think that one out.

I agree. That being said, if your confident and ready (something only you can determine) go for it. Had a friend that did it early, got a great score and didn't have to worry about it again (I was envious).

Just seriously think about it and don't take it until your ready. Again, plan to take it only once.

Most people are going to say this is a bad idea. The benefit to doing this (as I did) is that I didn't have to worry about studying for the MCAT during classes (when I was worried I wouldn't devote enough time to studying it) or worry about getting my scores early enough. I've also had my MCAT score for months so I'm aware of what I'm competitive for. I had several other friends who did it this way, though most people do take it during junior year.

That being said, this is an entirely personal choice, so study and take some practice tests to see where you stand.
