Hey guys I just have a quick question. I am in this program with a hospital where I volunteer on certain floors every month. Last summer I was on the trauma floor. 95% of my interactions were the patients and nurses. I did not really get to interact with the doctors there. I was wondering for something to count as shadowing, do you have to shadow a doctor? I was thinking that this would fall under clinical experience but just wanted to be sure.
I worked pretty closely with the head nurse on the floor and kind of shadowed her.

What you've described I'd suggest should be listed under clinical volunteering.

If you aim to apply to nursing school, shadowing a nurse is helpful. When applying to med school, one is expected to shadow physicians primarily. While some Shadowing of other healthcare providers can be useful in helping you answer "Why medicine?" rather than another profession that helps folks, it should not represent the major portion of the Shadowing experience you list on your application to med school.

Potentially the nurse who now knows you well might have suggestions of docs who'd be open to having you observe their patient interactions.
