Hi

My neighbor offered me a position in a pharmaceutical company that would involve researching articles relevant to a drug they currently have in clinical trials. They don't have a wet lab, it would be the business side of medical research.

Right now the only thing happening in my summer is becoming a member of a gym, looking for a volunteer emt position, and applying for summer jobs.

Is it smarter to take a retail summer job that I would get paid in or volunteer and do research where I'd be looking things up (not filing though).

I think I would enjoy either type of job, I just don't know if this type of research would be worth more than getting paid.

Sorry for the convoluted post earlier.

Any type of medically related experience is good. If it interests you, then I would pursue it. Don't just do it because you think it will look good on a your med school app though.

I edited my first post to make it more to the point

why not take the summer job and volunteer?

Because I want to be working on an ambulance over the summer as well... It's something I really enjoy.

My choice is basically if I want to do ambulance and the research thing (even though it isn't patient related) or a job at borders/hollister/abercrombie?

oh ok so one more question do you get paid @ the pharmaceutical company or is it a volunteer position, sorry i'm a little confused..

but if they do pay you to research and look up articles of the clinical pills then go for it + work on your ambulance 😎

No they wouldn't be paying me, it would be a summer long "internship" type of program.

That's why I'm wondering which one I should do. Honestly I couldn't care less about a retail position, the only positive thing is the money. I don't know much about this position but it sounds kind of cool.

I was just wondering if this type of position is more valuable to my future (career/med school application/skills) than paid retail
