Hi all,
I've been a Cognitive Science Major (w/Specialization in Computing) for about a year, but have recently realized that I really enjoy Middle Eastern Studies. While I feel like Cognitive Science may look better to those reading my application, I also know that med schools do at times like students who have non-science majors. I'm currently minoring in Biomedical Research and have done most of the classes. Unfortunately, I can't do both majors as it would take too long (esp. along with med pre-reqs). Cognitive Science would take about two quarters longer than the normal 4 year plan, but I'm not too worried about that. I'm interested in both pretty much equally, which should I go with? (As for coursework, I've done the same amount of coursework in both of them).
Thanks!

No one cares what you major in. That's why there's pre-med requirements. Just do well in whatever you do.

I don't think it will be a problem, as long as you get the pre-reqs done.

I have a degree in Human Resources Management.

You'll have interesting things to talk about and you won't be a cookie cutter applicant.

You aren't going into medicine to be the perfect, conformist drone. You are going in to be you, as a physician. Be you.

If you can keep your GPA up with both then why don't you try it? Adcoms don't care about which majors or minors you have - just that you completed your pre-reqs. Also you don't have to do the typical 4 yr plan. Taking a bit longer is not going to negatively affect you.

I agree with everyone else! Study what interests you - and who knows what other doors it may open! It will be easier to write about yourself and your experiences in personal statements in the future if you are able to talk about personal endeavors that truly piqued your interest. There is much beauty, although much more hard work, in being a non-traditional med school applicant. I think you would feel better for it. Good luck!

Doesn't matter, do well in what ever you choose.
