During the interview, would you guys bring it up if you were dyslexic? I'm thinking they might think we dont want him since he might not succeed here? Or they might think he managed to get a 3.1 with that, so he's willing to study. What are your opinions; would you, or would you not bring it up. I think it might help?

I wouldn't mention it until you get in so they can maybe accommodate you on exam days. But I really wouldn't mention it if I were you during an interview.

Don't mention it. You don't want to give them any reason to doubt your ability to perform in dental school. With a 3.1 you are already at a disadvantage. If you had a 4.0 and a high DAT score you might be safe to mention it.

so then i might as well tell them right? They might consider it liyng if i dont? They're already gunna know something is up

Just as it might workout towards your disadvantage it might also work to your advantage. I have a friend who has ADD and he takes adderall. Turns out, the guy who was interviewing him, his kid also has ADD. He sympathized with my friend. In fact he told my friend that he is going to need the adderall in dental school.

Well he got in....

If you mention it, try to spin it into a positive. How are you trying to overcome it? Are you making the necessary strides so that you don't need special treatment?

Thats your secret weapon, use it in a positive way.

Can they see that you had an extra hour on every section? Absolutely.

No they cant see it. Health information like that is extremely confidential. I would double check with the ada...if they did publish that info, than sue tham and you wont need to become a dentist.

Also for the person who posted this reply, why are you trying to make him feel bad. You should be grateful you are normal and have no learning disabilities. People like you deserve nothing in this life.

If there is any question about any disabilities, I think you should answer yes and explain your condition and any medication you are on.

Okay, so now from what im reading, it might work to my benefit if i use it

Put yourself in the shoes of the admissions committee. There are 10 spots left to fill in their upcoming dental class, and you are being interviewed. They have about 50+ interviews left on their monthly schedule. You decide to mention that you are dyslexic. Why would they risk a spot on you when they have plenty of other applicants that are more able.

Now, if they ask you to identify your weaknesses, THEN you can be honest and forthright and tell them about your "minor dyslexic" condition, but you have persevered and have always been able to accomplish your goals. This will be a good statement to make. So basically, only mention it if asked to provide an honest answer, they will respect you more for it.

Okay that sounds good. The only this is that i received accommodations on my dat, so i don't know if they can see that or not.

Well, you're obviously misinformed. This information is fully disclosed to schools, because they need to know the condition of their students so they can make accommodations for them in dental school. I have a couple friends with learning disabilities who received accommodation on the DAT, and were discussed in their interviews.

"People like you deserve nothing in this life." Lol, I wonder how Allah feels about you saying something like that. You should go repent.

I don't know if they would scrutinize your test results that much. I think it is better to avoid risks during interviews. If you bring it up without them asking it might look like you are using it as an excuse for a 3.1 gpa. I'd say only bring it up if they ask what your weakness is. It shows more character.

Ya, if they ask me about a weakness, or struggles to over come, then ill say it. Otherwise i won't. Well, this is all if i get an interview. But thanks for the help guys.

Amal, if you don't mind me asking, where did they apply, and what their stats generally were and if they got in? Keep it all anonymous, just looking for their general stats. I know its a personal thing.

I keep getting mixed reviews on this last question though. I'm pretty sure that they can see that i did get time accommodations on my test, but does anyone know for sure from first hand experience or something? If they ask me, of course i'm going to tell them, but do they know before hand?

Both got into Boston. 3.2ish and 3.1ish.
