Hey everyone,

I received a rejection at WashU in St. Louis on November 21st. However, I earned a 3.9 for the Fall semester. Have you guys ever heard of MED schools that would reconsider a rejection if you updated them with Strong grades after the rejection?

Man, I wish I would have at least got an interview there.

i wouldn't do it.

If it makes you feel any better, I innocently typed up a nice update letter to U. of Rochester explaining what I have been doing since turning in my secondary, only to receive a rejection from them 4 days later (after months of silence from them)! 😡 What's sad is that my letter and theirs may have crossed paths in the mail!🙁

Hmm...perhaps it is worth a try. I doubt anything will happen. I mean if the adcom has already rejected you they probably did so with your whole application in mind. One quarter or semester of grades really doesn't change much. But I don't think any harm can be done so why not?

On the other hand, perhaps you should give them an update of how many women you have bedded since you were rejected! 😉

Mike,

Sorry to hear that. I feel you. The worst thing is if the Schools charge close to a hundred dollars for a secondary application then reject you without an interview. They need someone to regulate this shady practice.

UCLA, that is pretty funny. haha.

Sorry, but if you've been rejected, it'll end up in the trash. On the upside, you'd have nothing but 37 cents to lose.

Hey onestrong, was your rejection one of these "we won't be able to offer you an interview at this time" letters, or an actual "thanks but no thanks" letter? I'm asking because I requested an interview a while back and they gave me the "not at this time letter," if it is one of these letters I say go ahead and write them. However, I emailed them for clarification of the letter that I got and never recieved any reply.

Good Luck!

I really don't think it will matter. If one excellent semester would have made a difference in their minds, they would have probably offered an interview in the first place. But if you really are interested, it can't hurt to send them an update.

What the hell for!@? they already rejected you!

I just wanted to say that you can appeal. In appeal letters, you dont have to send updates, but you can. that is a way you can send in your updates and this update might make an impact.

there are stories of applicants appealing, then receiving an interview, and eventually accepted, like 2 years ago at ucla med. i appealed to ucsf addressed to the dean, and received a response from him (although a reconfirmed rejection). most schools will look at your update and letters after rejection as long as u make it is an appeal.

good luck.

You're just wasting a stamp at this point. There is nothing you can do afer you have been rejected.

Canes2006 should know. Her home boys can do nothing about their recent rejection by the Buckeyes even if they come out of the starting blocks ranked number one next year. However, I feel her pain. My UW Huskies also bit the dust this holiday bowl season.

I must concur with everyone else, just an update will probably end up in the trash, however if you are planning to appeal I believe that this excellent semester (congratulations by the way!!!) is an excellent starting point! If nothing else, if letting them know that they have given up an excellent student will make you feel better to, then by all means spend the 37 cents to send it!

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the reply. I was so pissed I threw away the letter, however it was along the line of thanks but no thanks.
I think there are two underlining points. One is perseverance, sure it may be a waste of time and 37 cents, however, I want to cover every base.
The worst feeling in the world is knowing that in the back of your mind you could have done something (albeit a small thing) to help your cause. If I am going down with the ship, I will go down KNOWING I did everything I could from my end to get accepted.
The second underlining point is psychological. The admissions process makes you very introspective. We all don't like to be denied. When we do, we start to analyze the reasons. I myself don't believe that I should have been denied from WashU, thus it will give me a peace of mind to update my status.
Will my update make a difference? Probably not. However, I will know that I did everything I COULD from my end. I encourage others to UPDATE as well. What is 37 cents and 10 minutes compared to the fees tossed into the AMCAS money bin.

Hey, that pass interference call that should have ended the first OT with an incomplete was a load of crap. 🙂

Agreed. Then it took OSU a billion more tries (okay...that's obviously an exaggeration) to finally get the TD. The refs practically handed it to them. After that, I really wanted Miami to win, because that was really ludicrous.

However...I did NOT want them to win against my basketball team in OT...we played a ridiculously crappy game at the end. Oh well....
