Here's my question. Any advice/thoughts would be helpful.

There's a school I applied to in August which characteristically rejects people after a month or so. I haven't been rejected and it's been about 5 months. A couple of months back I sent in an update letter because I had some noteworthy additions I wanted to share.

Fast forward to now. The fact that I haven't been rejected yet leads to me to believe (hope?) that I might be in some sort of unofficial hold pile/still under consideration. I'm getting nervous, however, because I feel like interview spots might be drying up.

I'm considering writing another letter. The problem is that this time I have no new news to share, so really this letter would just reaffirm my interest in the school. Should I write a pre-interview interest/intent letter? My other problem is that I don't feel comfortable saying in the letter, "if interviewed I WILL go here" because maybe my view will change once I see the school. Moreover, I'm not even sure it's appropriate to write a pre-interview intent letter.

I guess my general question is, should I write a letter at all, or just wait it out?

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but I personally would just send in another letter to let them know that you're still interested (as long as the school is open to update letters). Just let them know why you like their program/why you'd be a good fit, but keep it brief.

ps. GO SOX

If you have nothing new to share, do not send a letter IMO. Also check your spam folder just in case, or call their office and ask about the status of your app.

Thanks for both of your advice. Ironically, a couple months back I got a rejection email and a few hours later they sent me a personal email saying this had been sent in error and i'm still under consideration. For this reason, I don't think that a rejection (or invite) was lost in spam. However, I think I might call and inquire about my status (good idea) and at the very least ask how much longer they are interviewing candidates, etc. If they are still sending out invites I might consider writing something short. Thanks for both your posts.
