wow, $50,000 Master Program?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
try state for cheaper prices.

Having low science GPA,

Do you guys think spending $51,000 at Johns Hopkins Master of Health Science worth spending for me to get into dental school?

or

$37,000 Master of Biomedical Science at the other school?

Why would you need a master degree to get into the dental school?

I wish...cheapest way I can go is to be reenrolled in my Undergraduate Univ. again but there aren't enough upper level science courses I can take at my state school anymore because I already took handful of them 🙁

Why don't u go to $5000 master program instead of 50,000 master program unless you wanna master in 10 diff subjects 😀

hahaha
$5000 master program...
suggest me some of those

Why don't you just take more undergrad classes to boost your GPA? My girlfriend did this to boost her GPA, and this was suggested to her by many dental school. It is a cheaper option.

Oh really?
My school did not recommend that path...that's so weird.

If I get Master's, adcoms will see my graduate GPA separately so
having low science GPA, getting Master was better options to show my huge improvement...

I may be wrong :/

You need to do more research into finding cheapest, 5k is low for any MS program but there are some out there which are ~11k/sem. so if you do like a 1 year thats like 22k. but personally i would go w/ taking higher level biology classes.

Hey , try to find a cheap 1 yr post-bacc program instead of master's, my pre-dent advisor told me that usually DS want you to finish Master's program before you start DS. So I guess its faster, cheaper option...but do talk to your advisor and find out whats best for u ...Gud luck !

LOL $50,000?! Your stipend better be like $60,0000 then.. Shouldn't yhe university be recruiting You to do the research for them? That's the way it's done in Canada atleast

If you do post bacc, then it counts as 1st yr of master so basically you need 1 extra year to finish your 2 year master's program.
(I heard that post bacc is harder than master's so if GPA is your major concern, I would rather take 2 year master than 1 year post bacc + 1 year master).

My school advised me against it also. They can also simply look at your transcript and look for trends.

Scholarship and stipend based program applies more for to the doctoral degree in the US.

grad gpa is grad gpa anywhere you go. Go to the less expensive school!

are you sure about that? i was under the impression that post baccs will only add to your sci GPA, and only actual graduate programs (master's and phD) will give you a graduate GPA..

Post-bac = taking more undergrad classes from the U where you graduated

Grad programs = Masters and PhD programs, go into graduate GPA calculation..

I think AADSAS also figures undergrad and grad GPA together too but I may be wrong.

If the OP took all available undergrad upper division classes at his U, the only option is a Masters program.

That's what I'm planning on doing, since I already have my BA but not enough of the prerequisite science courses. I applied to and got accepted to a local school here and will take those courses I need (and boost my GPA), which may take 1-2 yrs before applying to dental school.
