I was kinda depending on this but I think it is amazing they have this program and it is very appreciated. Anyone need information on getting it I would be glad to share.
yeah, how long did it take you to get approved for it? after mailing in your forms that is?
they told me that it takes about a week for the to start the application once the forms get to their office, and then 15 business days after that. is that accurate???
also, do they email you when they receive your forms or only when they make a decision? i've been waiting on this for a while and i can't wait to hear from them to get my ACMAS in!!!
thanks!
You can do it online. I got my rejection within 15 minutes 🙁. My parents made just over the level they establish. I think in all actuality, me having a job is what did me in. Oh well.
lol, thanks man! i hope you meant the 26th or 27th of JUNE though and not May, hahaha. I got it in about the same time in June and i was expecting to wait about a month.
You can't do it on line when you have a job. If you put in figures that are above their threshold you'll get a rejection but if they want you to mail things in, i.e. proof of taxes and blah blah bhlah then most likely you'll be approved if everything is correct.
I was able to complete the application while employed. Obviously it looks better if you aren't employed even if you only have a small amount of money coming in.
Just how poor do you have to be? I may qualify...
You are your parents must make below 300% the poverty level (which is about $60,000 a year for a 4 person household)

Oh, and to someone else's question, AMCAS covers the cost up to 12 schools no matter when you apply
I also have a question. FAP gives you 12 free med school applications. But what if you initially apply to 5 and then later add schools? Do you guys know if you get another 7 free apps or do you start paying?

Good questions... You're right they DO NOT email you when the form is received. They receive them and start working on them immediately. AMCAS appears to work in piles. So when you call them they will tell you the date of the pile they are working on and that is how you should know when you might get your answer.
I overnighted my package so I knew what pile they would be working on when. I got it there by the 26 or 27 and just got the email today. LOL, I am so poor it is not even funny... This is a god send.

Yep, you can qualify for a certain number of cycles consecutively.anyone know if I qualify for FAP for this cycle, and I don't get in anywhere, if I can reapply for FAP next application cycle and get the same "12 free school applications + free secondaries" deal next year? thanks
unfortunately they look at parents' income in every situation (unless they are no longer living), even if youre 35 years old and youve been living on your own for who knows how long. Yeah, it's a little weird. Is this done in the same way as financial aid in that if you are married they won't even look at your parents' income?
