As someone who recently passed the WREB I wanted to start a thread to help people avoid the problems My classmates and I faced.
#1) Learn the damn Wreb Packet inside out. This was the worst part of the test for me. I read the packet a couple of times but was not well organized during the test day. My 1st patient was sent back twice, because I forgot to submit one of the forms and then again because I forgot to fill out a section of the paperwork.
I would advise to study the packet. Know which instruments are submitted when. Fill out everything all the paperwork in advance.Make sticky notes to help you along during test day.
#2) look for your patients early. Get backups and stay in touch with them.
3 months before Wreb, I had both of my class 2 patients and a Perio pt.
3 weeks before wreb I find out my Perio patient does not have enough clicks, one of my class 2's would have been a slot prep which is not a good choice, and another shows up with a fistula on an adjacent tooth needing Endo. So a frantic searched began, and I got lucky to find patients on time.
#3) Avoid the Slot Prep. No matter how strong your operative skills are do not attempt a class 2 slot prep. A high percentage of people who try this fail.Do not be conservative. It is better to pulp then to leave decay.
#4) Let's say you are removing decay on your class 2. You have exceeded the conditions of the optimal prep. You see some demineralization etc, or are unsure if caries remains. To play it safe you can ask for a modification. If your modification is denied, you lose 3 pts. This is better than leaving decay which would cost you 15pts.
#5) Get new Endo Files. I had a Gates and a Litespeed break in 2 different teeth during the Wreb. Sure I was a little nervous, But it happened in 2 different Teeth! One of the K Files was badly bent and I think I got set that was worn out. I got lucky and got the files out but I had to pack up all my gear turn it in and go to sterilization to get new files and set up again. That cost me about 20 minutes.
I will continue this thread later. If anyone has any Questions, I will be glad to help. Demeter.
