Hey guys. So on the aadsas application there's a lot of different sections to put your extracurriculars stuff. There's Dental experience, Work experience, Volunteer experience and REsearch experience. Sooo if something fits into more than one catagory, shoudl we just pick one? The admission people well read it all anyway right?

thanks

I have a situation where I am volunteering at a free dental clinic 4 hours a week...I feel that it counts for both volunteering and dental experience because I am actually doing work (chairside assisting, cleaning, developing x-rays, etc.) and not getting paid. I also shadowed 3 other dentists that I am including in the dental experience section, but not the volunteer section, because I just stood there or followed the Dr arounf and observed. To answer your question I am putting the clinic experience under both sections.

Hope that helps... 👍 Good luck!

Well remember, the application lets you check off whether the dental experience is observation, paid, or volunteer. If you have enough things to fill up all the sections without "double dipping", I'd say do that. It also says "Only Once" so might want to just follow the direction. You get the little text box to explain so just emphasize that it's volunteer or paid or just observation. Just what I think.

Thanks for the input Saxy...I guess I should have elaborated a little. I am also doing other things with the clinic including bagging & handing out food, community health fairs, and volunteering in the med clinic. That is why I included it in both sections. Would you say that's valid?

so, out of curiosity...would it be better to have more "dentistry experience" than "extracurriculars" or vice versa? i have a lot of experiences that would fit into either category but i'm sooooo torn into which category it should go into. any advice would be great! thanks!

I think it should not be listed more than ONE time. AADSAS clearly specifies... it would be just adding redundant information.

It's just up to your own criteria.

YES you just write it ONCE, I called AADSAS today they, repeated SAID YOU JUST WRITE IT ONCE, since the admission committee don't want to read it multiple times.
