Ok so heres my dilemma, I'm trying to consider where to apply. First MCAT take last year, I scored a 27L. Horrible writing score, I know. Well, I registered to retake obviously and improved to a 31. But of course, there is no writing section to show that I have improved. How will the schools be handling writing scores now? I don't want to be screened out because of my first MCAT writing score, but since I can't retake the writing section I can't improve.... The MSAR still shows median writing scores, which scares me. How will admissions be handling people in my position??

Schools don't care about writing scores--which is why the writing section went away. They're going to use your personal statement/secondary essays to gauge your writing.

this. no one really cares about the writing score.

I think they will realize that you are unable to show improvement, since there was no writing section. They will make note of your overall improvement, which is a pretty good one. I wouldn't get too hung up on this, especially since you can't do anything about it now, and also because nobody cares about the writing to begin with. This is why it's now gone. Focus on making the rest of your application amazing. That's what you can do now.

Crucial point here. The writing section in the MCAT was the irrelevant.

Ok thanks guys. I just started thinking, what if I get automatically screened out of all of these schools even though my MCAT is finally competitive..Ugh. Do you think once I apply, I should try calling to make sure I'm at least considered?

please stop trying to look for something to worry about.

the writing score never mattered ...so much so that they've completely deleted it from the mcat! and yet you're still worried.

congrats. calm down. don't call anyone.

Skin is right, it never mattered. I had a 37 O back when I applied and an interviewer straight up said to me "Nice MCAT score, I mean I guess you can't write, but we don't really care about that." It's good that they've finally gotten rid of the subjective part of the test.

Haha ok ok. I guess I do look a little crazy. I was just concerned I had somehow got myself in no man's land based on a stat that doesn't really matter.
