Writing Section - Erasable Pen?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I used erasable pen on mine. I highly recommend it. My proctor did not say anything about it, but maybe he didn't notice.

What is an erasable pen? You use an eraser along with it?

I also used an erasable pen (paper mate eraser mate was the brand) for the writing sample and I would recommend it. It doesn't say anywhere on the MCAT that you can't use an erasable pen.

Make sure the pen is BLACK though.

What's the difference between using an erasable pen and a normal pen which can also be erased by a 'write out'?

If I remember correctly, the regulations say that you can only bring a pen, pencil, eraser, and stop watch into the test with you. They might not let you have "write out".

YES!!! The erasable pen is an excellent idea. I was very happy to have mine during the last MCAT. My essays would have looked terrible without it.

later

I looked over the entire portion of the MCAT section on the AAMC web site and it doesn't say anything about not being able to use easable pens. Go for it.

I used an eraseable pen for my MCAT - it really is they way to go.

it's a pen but it acts like a pencil...creepy huh?

seriously though, i used it this april and if you're anal about the cross out thing like i am, go with it!

an erasable pen, has an eraser to erase ink!

Honestly, this coming form someone who got an R in his mcat...

it isnt a terrific score but it is good. I didnt have an erasable pen. For corrections, I crossed out the words neatly and wrote above it. (I personally think they like that, since they know you made an attempt to proof read) that is my 2 cents by the way....

best 😀

I used an erasable the first time, (the MCATs they lost), but the ink kept smudging. Be very careful about that because they do not dry as fast. On the retake, I used regular pens and got a good score even from crossing out a line or two.

I agree with Homo. I got a T on my writing sample, got all psyched about it, and then had my bubble burst when my premed advisor told me most schools don't even look at your score. Point is, don't sweat this section. Just make sure you don't completely blow it off.
