writing your personal statment

I am having a hard time coming up with a personal statement. So far my statement sounds like a resume. What to do. Does anybody have any advice on what i should do. Did any of you go to see a writing specilist to help one come up with a great statement. Finally is it better to be creative or more conservative. I spoke with two different sources and one says creative and the other says conservative

write about something that shows you are unique.

do not write crap about "i was on dean's list, with
3.7 GPA, yadda yadda yadda". personally i find
it stupid to mention stuff in the essay that they
easily could already see from looking at your resume.

Try and write something about how you got interested in the dental field, your motivation, things that you have done that have prepared you for dental school, something that is not on your application that you know will help you. Good luck

I started off with an incident where i got bitten by a wasp when i was a kid!

I guess that got their attention 😉 Just be unique, and truthful. Dont just say where you volunteered at and what you did, more importantly you need to emphasize what you learned from each experience. Start off with something that sparked your interest in dentistry, how you tried to discover more about the field, and how you are sure that this is what you really want to do. Add in your personal qualities (like dexterity, artistic ability, reasoning etc.) into your essay... you need not devote a paragraph to talk about them specifically, show how they helped you wherever you volunteered or worked at.

Some folks use an obscure quote of some sort, and make their essay sound like it was written by someone at the Whitehouse trying to pass a Bill. That might work too, but so does being unique and creative, the last thing you want to do is bore someone at the ADCOM with a dull eassy, im sure they read quite a few of those already... wasps!!!

Have it read by a few people, and dont go overboard with the creativity. Some people will like the approach, some wont. You will have to decide...

Just to remind you guys not to hold back any hardship that you overcome to be where you are today. To demonstrate your genuine interest in the profession. The most important thing is to tell them why you want to be a dentist, why did u choose this profession, how hard you work to get through school.

I don't know if i want to get into speaking of hardships, I have pretty much struggled my whole life being hearing impaired and the stigma of being hearing impaired ( basically deaf). Should i write about it or suprise the interviewer when they give me an interview. what yah think tinkerbell. I can honestly say that i worked my ass off my whole life to get into college. I want to be able to earn an interview on my character and grades not a pitty interview.
