Hey All,
I've been waitlisted at WVSOM for two months without any hint that anything is happening. Then on Monday I get a message on my answering machine asking if I am still available. I then call and inform them that I am still available. The admissions counselor says she will inform the dean. That was a week ago and now I am struck with silence again. Can any the WVSOM students clear this up for me? Is this standard procedure? 🙄

More news today. I just got a packet which allows me to get a jump on the financial aid situation. But, by no means does it guarantee an acceptance.... I think I will start bugging somebody more. I must not be doing enough...

I got one too. The financial aid dept took the waiting list and sent everyone the info and forms so that you can be up-to-speed if you get in at the last minute. Don't be discouraged (like me) because at least the admissions office is contacting you. You're lucky because the out of state list moves much more than the in state. Please keep us informed!

A couple years ago, I was waitlisted at WVSOM and they sent me the financial aid package too. About a month went by and I hadn't heard anything, so I reapplied to about 15 schools and registered to retake my MCATs. Well, they called me the day before I was going to take my MCATs and asked me if I wanted to be a part of their class. And that was when their orientation had already started. Someone didn't end up showing up, and they wanted me to take their place. I didn't end up going because I really couldn't see myself going there, but that just goes to show you that you still have hope.

Good luck! 😀 •••••What's wrong with WV??!! Actually, I can't blame you for not going to Morgantown. WVU is our big rival (I'm at MU) and I can tell you that while I've never been to Morgantown, Huntington is much better. If you're going to med school in WV, go to Marshall.

Firebird, we're referring to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, located in Lewisburg, WV. And.... fwiw: wvu has a much better medical school than marshall. Huntington is a much better town if the city council and mayor would get their act together.

Jim Johnson,
I have been in contact with them, updating information, sending more rec. letters, and calling to "check" about the specifics needed for a physical. Each time I have been told that I have been mentioned to Dr. Thompson and that he keeps receiving all of my updates. The admission's lady seems quite nice and assures me that everything is going to the Dean's desk. What more can I do but wait... I have been accepted at Western University, but WVSOM was by far my most favorite school. I don't know anyone who has visited and gone away dissappointed. I guess I'll keep praying. By the way, I am also wait-listed at KCOM and Creighton, but HOPING FOR WVSOM!!!!

Hey all. I'm applying to WVSOM for fall 2003. I've long thought that I would enjoy studying there, but now I just don't know if I should even apply. Why? THE TUITION! It's up to $35,000. That's insane for such a rural school. Should I attend, my debt load would surely be over 200K. Maybe I'm missing something here. Is there substantial grants/scholarships to offset the cost of attending? And if so, does an out-of-stater (GA), have a shot at getting any of them. If any WVSOM students out there could shed some light on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it.

Huntington is still better than Lewisburg. I'm not talking about the government or mayor or whatever...I'm just talking about the recreational and commercial aspects. There's no doubt lots more to do in Huntington than anywhere else in WV, except Charleston.

And what is wrong with Marshall's med school? Seriously...please let me know because I've heard largely good things about it and I want to go there for med school. But if it's a big mistake, I would like to know about it now, before I start applications.

And by the way...what does fwiw mean?

And by the way...what does fwiw mean?•••••Huntington is an OK city, much better than Morgantown, but if you like the country: Lewisburg for sure! Lewisburg has MUCH better goals and qualities than Marshall. But I say this because I want to be a D.O. and definitely not an M.D. Do yourself a favor. Have you actually seen where you'll be taking classes at the MU medical school? They like for you to think that the nice Cabell Huntington addition is the medical school. WRONG. Drive out to Spring Valley to the VA hospital and take a look at the ragged classrooms. You'll be disappointed. If you want the best primary care education, take a look at Lewisburg. Think surgery and research might be your thing? WVU.

I hate to see 1/3 of the police officers lose their job on Monday. It will be a totally different city in many different ways.
