Hey guys, I had an interview at WVU on Nov.17th and I was wondering when I should be expecting a notification if I was accepted or not? Has anyone gotten any acceptance there yet? Thanks...

I interviewed on October 13th, and I was accepted on Nov 30th! Are you in or out of state? I don't know if they hand out in state acceptances first or what, maybe you could call and ask them.

i am outta state with strong wvu ties....my interview was on nov 17th....they said id hear something regaurdless in beginning of dec.

how do you define your "strong wv ties"? Im applying next cycle as an out-of-stater but I went to WVU as an undergrad so just wondering what you consider "strong wv ties"?

i was born in morgantown...i lived there up until recently due to my dad relocating for his job...Both of my parents went to wvu...my dad played football there...my mom was a cheerleader...my uncle went to wvu undergrad and dental school...my cousin went to dental hygeine school there....i have numerous family and friends still living in the state and are good friends with many people at the university...and im a huge wvu sports fan....i go to duquesne in pittsburgh.....decided a small school would be better for me for undergrad....but other than that...im just looking to get back to west virginia and really want to be there for dental school

so has anyone who went to the nov 17th interview heard anything from wvu yet?

ACCEPTED, and I was at the Nov. 17th interview! On the contingency that I get my letters of recommendation in (my pre-health advisor never clicked the submit button to AADSAS). My parents got the letter in the mail Nov. 29th (I go to Case, and our mail system is horrible so I had it mailed home).
You can call and get your status if you're still waiting though.

Anyone else get in?

Are you definitely going to WVU?

Yes, unless I get into UConn, which I highly doubt will happen. I'm really excited to be going back home (I live in Morgantown, but left for college)!

Do they do in-state acceptances first, then out of state acceptances? Could that be the delay in mine?

Looks like I'm officially on the forum! I guess I am a bit overzealous, but I am going to be applying for the next cycle, and I go to school out of state. NattyJ, if you don't mind me asking, what are your DAT scores and your GPA? I am just so worried about taking the DAT, and while my GPA is good, it isn't great.

Congrats NattyJ on being accepted! I can't wait to be in your shoes this time next year (hopefully).

ElectraOnAzalea...I saw your predents profile. Are you definitely going to WVU?

Hey toothless...I had a 3.0 flat in biomedical engineering at a difficult engineering school where the average engineering gpa is ~2.6 or 2.7, so I def. wouldn't recommend applying with a gpa that low if your school's average is higher...my DAT's were above average except for biology but I have never had a conventional bio course so that was to be expected. My reading comp. was in the high 20s. I don't remember what my scores actually were because after the test I blocked it out (definitely did not get the 25 I wanted lol). I also didn't study at all for the DAT, I basically winged it. Some of my friends took a Kaplan course and did amazingly on the DAT.
I did a lot of extracurriculars, was a senior coxswain on the crew team, held various exec. positions in my sorority and school's engineering council, started some philanthropy programs within my sorority, and web design in my spare time (I think my interviewers thought I was the world's biggest nerd, but I like to think that I have varied interests).
I shadowed my general dentist over the summer, but not much. My family has a good number of dentists in it, though, so I've been around dentistry a lot.
My dad was also on the WVU admin committee a long time ago so we talked about what the adcom would probably ask, and he listened to my answers.

K, reader's digest version: you can definitely get in with a low gpa or a bit below average dat, but you need to stand out in some way, whether it be your grades/dats, extracurriculars, work experience, volunteering, etc. For WVU, they like it if you want to stay in WV, because why train you so you can leave and add to our state's brain drain?

Good luck!

wow you got in with a 3.0? Congrats....I hope my 3.8 gets me in there....anyone out of state hear anything yet from wvu?

Yeah, but BM Engineering is really stinking hard lol (our class average is 2.7)...all of my pre-reqs were A's

Just got my acceptance letter today.... LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!

yea...def....wvu was my number 1 choice....i think i met you at the interview on nov 17th nattyj....i think we walked out together at the very end of the interview....you said you went to case and are from morgantown and your dad works for the university? i remember something along those lines...if that was you 🙂 Are you gonna go to wvu?

Yup that was me! I remember you too...when you said you went to Duquesne that should have clicked. I wonder who else from our interview date made it in? I'm definitely coming to WVU...right now I'm trying to find a place to live, though I might live with my grandmother, because she has a nice home close to campus and I might have to hurt myself if I lived with my parents/sister while trying to go do d-school (My dad is the chairman/director of the endo program so I'm going to be seeing a LOT of him already lol).
Any clue what you're going to do for housing?

yea actually...my family is real good friends with dr.bakos of OMFS department..and his chief resident was finishing up this year....so one day my mom was getting work done down there by him and they jsut started talking and exchanged infor about his place right by campus...so i think were gonna go down sometime and look at it and hopefully ill be living there....i dont know of anyone else that got in to the program from our interview...

Are there apartments near the dental school? I wonder where most people live. I've only been to Morgantown twice in my life!

I'm thinking about taking a trip up there over winter break just to feel it out since i really don't know anything about it. Do any of you have any suggestions on places to go or see/do?

I'm definitely leaning very heavily toward WVU right now.

Let me know when you will be in town. I can meet you and drive you around. I live near Morgantown and currently go to WVU. So I can show what ever you need to know.

Yeah, same with me. I'll be home from school on Wed. and I live in Morgantown. As long as you aren't in during dec. 28-jan. 5th (I'll be in Colorado), I'd love to show you around or even just go out to lunch and meet a new classmate 🙂.

I'm confused about housing. My parents offered to buy a place for me in Suncrest, then use it as an investment after I graduate, but I think they will want me to have room mates which I do not want. I also don't want to live at home because we live out in Cheat Lake. I might end up living with my grandmother because she lives in a fairly large house near-ish to campus and then I don't have to worry about any of that cooking/cleaning stuff.

I would suggest buying instead of renting if you have the means, just because Morgantown is growing and property values are rising every day. If you want a townhouse, they have ones REALLY close to the Dental school for sale for ~100K. they're nice, but def. a fire hazard because they're so close together. There's also some upscale townhomes in Suncrest Place, but they will run you ~$500K. You could buy a nice small home in Suncrest with 2-3 bedrooms and rent those rooms out to pay your mortgage as well. I would not suggest living anywhere other than Suncrest unless you want to have a long commute (the traffic gets crazy when the students are in town...it used to take me 30-40 minutes to get to high school on a good day...and I didn't even go through campus to get there!).

There are also plenty of apartments/homes for rent near the school. Many of the apartment buildings have been built within the last 2 to 3 years, and look very nice from the outside.

Wow! That sounds great. I'll have to put some plans in the works to make a trip up there. I live about 3.5 hours away, but I go to school about 3 hours away on the other side of the state, so I have to go by Morgantown to get there anyway.

I'm at home right now, and I'm thinking I'm going to have to make a trip to Shepherdstown soon for a job interview anyway, so maybe i can stop in Morgantown on my way up and we can have lunch and you can show me around (either or both of you!) I'll post on here when I get some more details.

Thank you so much!

No problem. I am here and will be here except Jan 2nd- Jan 6th. Other than that I am here everyday. My daughter goes to daycare in Morgantown, so I can drop her off and then I am free for the day until 5 PM, I have to pick up my daughter and then my son to get him to basketball practice. So just keep me posted as to when you will be in town. I would love to get together with a future classmate. 🙂

I'm thinking of coming there on December 27th, is that day free for either of you?

Good for me, if you don't mind me having my daughter, her day care is off that day or I could ask my friend to watch her for a few hours.

That's fine with me. We could all meet for lunch somewhere around 12 and then you can show me around Morgantown. Does that sound like a good plan? Is there a certain place that it would be convenient to meet? I'll PM you both my cell phone number. Can't wait to meet you!😀

I just PM'd my numbers and realized I didn't give my name. LOL it is Lesli. I was thinking Cheddar's for lunch and then we can drive around town. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that we can all fit in if you want to drive around in one car. I am waiting for my friend to get back with me about watching my daughter for a few hours. But it is VERY nice to know you don't mind if she comes. ( sometimes Mommy wants some adult time 😉 )

Well, i've decided to attend WVU unless i make it into Louisville off of the waitlist! Thank you so much for showing me around Morgantown, and making this decision easier by knowing i'll have same helpful classmates! I'm still banking on you getting in Lesli! You're going to rock the interview.

Like I told you, if you need anything to help you find a place or what ever you need to help you move out here, just let me know. My couch is still open to you if you need it while you look for a place.

I can't wait for this interview I just want to go, get it done, and get my answer already. LOL.:scared:

Hey, good luck tomorrow! Let us know how it goes!

Well it was a pretty standard interview. I was not really asked anything I did not expect. I was a little surprised at how much they asked about me playing the viola. They touched a little bit on my shadowing with my grandfather. And grilled me about my transcript ( which I expected) . They seemed to really question my comittment once I would be in dental school. But I felt I had good responses for everything. So it is just wait and see now. They told us up to a month before we hear anything.
We were also told they are going to try for 80% in state (40 seats) and that 34 seat are taken and 65% of those are in state. So either they are only taking instate students for the last 16 seats or they are not going to make their goal of 80% of instate seats, but there are at least 9 in state seats left.
They said they have over 1500 applications and that around 80 of those are in state applicants. They also said they are only doing around 150-175 interviews and they have interview scheduled through april. So maybe I actually have a chance this year. Oh well it is wait and see now!

THANKS FOR THINKING OF ME!!😀
