So I ended my Freshman year at a 'public ivy' with a 3.8

I know that this is considered to be a good gpa but I'm worried that this is like a bare minimum just to apply to med school. The majority of kids applying to med school will have a 3.8 but the people that get in probably have a 3.9+ so idk if I should be worried...

Bio 1 - B+
Chem 1 - A
Bio 2 - A-
Chem 2 - A-

Also I've read some places that the science gpa counts both science and math??? Is that true? And are Labs considered for the sGPA?

I haven't started shadowing or volunteering yet but I plan on doing so soon.
I have been doing research in a research lab at school and I'll be continuing it for some time.
You are wrong. The median GPA applying to medical school is 3.55. The median GPA for matriculants is 3.70. Thus, you should not be worried about your grades.

But you should be worried about the following:

-EON syndrome, or Early Onset Neurosis, which occurs in premedical students pretty frequently and needs to get checked out.
-(serious) Your sources of information. My guess is that your getting your info from other sufferers of premed neurosis, which is very contagious.

If there is one thing I have learned about being premed, its not to get my information from other premeds. Not saying this is what your doing, but I don't know where you got those numbers from.

SO true... The biggest things affecting premeds, are other premeds haha

Yes, and yes. Usually labs are required anyway.

This has already been said but you'll be fine. I suggest finding a mentor. Keep up the good work!

Keep in mind OP that a 3.8 in freshman year is VERY good. A lot of universities give out higher % of A's later on as the quality of students gets higher and higher due to weeding out.

How on Earth did you get into an Ivy League school? Have you done any research at all or looked through SDN maybe for 30 seconds to realize how untrue that statement is?!?!?!?

1) OP said it's a "public ivy"

2) Students at OP's school are likely overachievers which is making OP (understandably) nervous and giving OP a skew sense of the applicant pool
