Those of you who have been using your yahoo accounts be warned. Some secondaries will automatically be filtered into your junk mail folder, and then swept out periodically with the automatic clearance. I found out the hard way w/ my usc email in the junk, along with unknown others. Does anyone know how to access the USC secondary--as in have the link?

USC requires login and password before you can access their secondary

the login is your amcas id
and the password are jumbled up letters and numbers

Yeah this happened to my Jefferson secondary, just be careful and check your bulk mail box daily.

I agree with themann. Just be sure to check your bulk folder on a daily basis and be careful when deleting those email messages. Good luck!

I have yahoo and have no problems with it. Just turn off your spam mail folder.

Yes, I guess you could just turn off the spam mail folder, but I prefer to neurotically check my bulk mail folder and my normal mailbox. It is like getting twice as many presents on Christmas.

Hmm.. Not a bad idea, checking two mailboxes. Maybe I'll build a second snail-mail box in my front yard. Then I get to get that nervous twitch in my stomach twice a day!

too funny

Is this problem only with yahoo email accounts. How about hotmail accounts?

dmitri

Same problem with hotmail accounts. UIC e-mail was buried in my junk mail. Almost deleted it since it had the great subject line of "root".

duncanfj,

So does that mean that I can avoid losing any emails if only I check the "junk mail" folder in my hotmail account?

dmitri

Depends on the settings of your account. Look at your settings and their explanations. You should be fine as long as you check your junk folder, but do whatever you feel comfortable with.

thanks for the advice

here is something that worked for me: open an entirely new hotmail/yahoo account just for your med school apps. the default setting is low-filter mode, and you'll get all your secondary e-mails in your inbox. i just can't set my regular e-mail acct to low-filter mode b/c then i get swamped with 1000 emails a day promising various enhancements of body parts or free grocery coupons or pics of anna kournikova undressed or whatnot. then i run out of space and incoming emails get bounced back.

the plus to opening a med-school only mailbox is that every time you actually get mail in your med-school e-mail account, you KNOW it's something important, instead of some annoying spam operation 🙂
