I just want to know if Yale takes people only based on GPA and MCATs or if they consider other things too. I just got a sec. from them and was wondering if it's worth it to fill it in with my low MCATs (22P) and avg. GPA(between 3.00-3.5), but tons of EC's, volunteer& medical experience. English is my second language, and I speak 3 other languages.

Their e-mail says that they don't have any cutoffs and that everyone is considered for admission. It is tempting!!!Do they say this just to get the money????

I would love to hear some feedback about this 🙂

honestly, with a 22 mcat, it's highly unlikely. i think yale's averages are around 3.7 and a 33 mcat.

also yale likes ivy students, esp their own.

if you're a urm, it's not out of reach

I dont think its worth the money. Not at Yale.

I'm not hispanic nor African, so I don't think I am an URM. I do come from a minority group though, but I guess it doesn't count.

Ahhh...I wish I knew what to do. I would love to get into Yale (one of my dream schools)!!

If you're not on a tight budget, and Yale is the dream school, then go for it. Just understand that you have a very, very slim chance of acceptance there.

Yale is filled with amazing kids... and I think they'd feel 30 on the mcat was a minimum.. especially with the way they run the curriculum, I also think they'd care about gpa quite a bit. s

Yale's my number one choice, too. Anyways, I think I saw as low as 26 MCAT getting in with your GPA from my undergrad. Non-URM.

Give it a shot. Who knows? If your verbal score is bringing down your overall score, maybe they will consider that. Good luck. 🙂

Yale is among my top choices. I have received interviews at similarly competitive schools, but I am still waiting for Yale 🙁 This process is random, even with competitive stats. If you have $100 to spare then why not, although I wouldn't expect to hear from Yale. That way, if you do, you will be pleasantly surprised.

actually yale has some of the best finaid out there. their unit loan is under 20,000. the rest comes from scholarships. any outside scholarships detract from the loan as well. also, free fifth year!

Ah, he meant applying to Yale as in the secondary fee, not attending.

Precisely. The "top ten" schools really take care of their students financially. Consider Stanford. According to US News, the avg. Stanford med student graduates with around $65,000 in debt, while the average UC Irvine student graduates with around $80,000 in debt. But Irvine is a state school, and should be cheap, right? Right, and wrong. Cheap compared to most private institutions; expensive when compared to the top schools that give out excellent financial aid packages, include prodigious amounts of grants and scholarships.

I think I will give it a shot. Thank you all for the encouragment. I really apprecaite it 🙂

Do you guys think there are some schools which I should add to my AAMC which would have better shots at getting accepted with my stats (as a Canadian)??? Which schools accept many Canadians?

This site addresses issues regarding Canadians with imperfect applications, with advice regarding Carribean schools.
