For those who were there, how was it? How's the new building? What other schools were people looking at?

I know there was a previous post on this, but there weren't many useful responses.

The second look weekend was great - they showed us a really good time. I've never spoke to happier, more enthusiastic med students. They gave us a good overview of the "yale system" and both the faculty and the students answered a lot of questions about it. If you're the self-motivated type who wants to have freedom in med school to explore interests other than endless cramming for tests (i.e. research, community service, dual degree, a family, a life) its the place for you. It seems like the system really subdues a lot of the unnecessary stress and cynicism that is usually abundant in med school.

The facilities are pretty much second to none. The new building is beautiful - anatomy labs with windows and computers at each station, tons of research space, etc... they are pouring a lot of money into the sciences at yale right now and it shows.

As you can probably tell, they pretty much sold me.

The other people at the weekend were deciding between all sorts of different schools - most seemed pretty excited about yale.

thanks pbr. i'm trying to make up my mind right now and yale seems like a very student-friendly place. it's the best place to be a medical student i think. and they have the best match list i've seen.

i read that yale was putting $1 billion into it's medical school and science facilities. that's a lot of money...

I agree that its the most student-friendly place I've seen - I've been trying to decide between Yale and another place as well... let me know if you have any other questions about the weekend. I'd be happy to answer them.

I saw an earlier post of yours about yale vs. hopkins clinical education. i posted opinions that i've heard on the matter ... take it for what it's worth but i've heard it from faculty at hopkins hospital.
