So I plan to apply to medical school next year for the 2019 matriculation cycle and I was wondering what my chances are considering my low GPA and some schools I should be applying to.
So, more about me. I'm a Michigan resident, attended Yale on full financial aid and worked an on campus job as part of my finaid package 4/4 years of undergrad. I definitely had some struggles within my major and had to withdraw from one class (MCDB basically Biology major, 2nd lowest avg GPA major at the school before people start talking about grade inflation). 3.41 GPA 3.2 sGPA. ECs include shadowing, 1.5 years of research as an undergrad, 4 years of my campus job, greek life (was president of my fraternity senior year), volunteering with AIDS Project. Since I was so overwhelmed and stressed about the application process right after graduation, I have taken 2 years off to further explore work in the medical field, adding another year of clinical research as well as working as a Scribe for ScribeAmerica and working for a medical devices company.
I'm already applying to all of the MI schools and all of the schools in NYC, which is ideally where I would like to attend medical school. Just wondering what my chances are and which schools I should be considering to apply to in order to give myself the best chance of acceptance. Also, if there's anything I could be doing to further improve my chances at this point I'm open to ideas, however I don't come from any money and am entirely financially independent, so post-bac classes are fairly difficult (both finding the time and the money while working).
