Yale-Waterbury vs UCI Prelim Program

Which one of these programs is better to attend for intern year? One plus for me is I'd rather live in Irvine and have friends there. Which one would offer more research opportunities? Are they both equally well-respected?

Yale-Waterbury is essentially a community program, and it's also about as far away from your desired location as you can get. I've heard it's a very good program regardless, but based on what you wrote (desire for research opportunities + being in Irvine) it doesn't sound necessarily like the better fit.
