Hi Everyone,

I am looking into Yale's Anesthesia Program and have been looking into the surrounding neighborhoods to live. I would like to drive to Yale in the near future to check out some areas, and was wondering if I could get some recommendations about what are some of the safer neighborhoods to live. I worry because my wife and newborn twins will be with me and I would feel better knowing that they are in a "safer" area than New Haven.

Thank you all very much for any help you can give! I appreciate it!

Plenty of safe and high quality neighborhoods to raise a family in NH, just like any East Coast City its overall very safe with just a few bad pockets to avoid

If your looking to stay in NH and be very close to the hospital, would check out Wooster area, East Rock, and Westville

If you want to be outside of NH and willing to commute a little but still be within 30min of campus, you can find plenty of great neighborhoods in Milford-Orange, West Haven, Woodbridge, Hamden, East Haven, Cheshire, Wallingford, Guilford, Madison

hope that helps

Lurking here - I did my residency (pharmacy) at Yale last year. Agree with the above, there are plenty of nice suburbs within a short drive if you don't mind doing that. I would avoid downtown New Haven if you're going to have family/kids around, both for safety and lack of things of interest to them immediately nearby.

Can't speak for the anesthesiology program other than in general terms, but Yale is a great learning environment overall to be in.

Was at Yale for grad school 1996-2001 and agree with above unless things have changed drastically. I lived in Westville and late rmoved to East Rock area. Plenty of apartments. Hamden area was next move if I had stayed any longer.

Downtown and the area between the hospital and Yale Bowl is not bad if you are interested in having 24/7 access to crack cocaine and other combustibles.
