Just had to put it out there because I'm so excited. I'm doing an internship at a zoo here in NYC and I met with the curator today to confirm all the details. I start next Saturday!
Yay for zoos!😍

Nice, I only know of 2 in NYC (sure there are more), The Staten Island Zoo (Amazing reptiles back in the day) and the Bronx (amazing everything back in the day).

Give us a hint 🙂

I just volunteered for Prospect Park Zoo, because it their program has some animal contact and handling involved.

Which Zoo, did you sign up for?

The Staten Island Zoo👍

I get to work in rounds through the whole collection (other than the hot zone, aka poisionous snakes) and get to shadow the curator for a day. There is animal contact and I was encouraged to bring a camera to take pictures! I start next Saturday.

Very cool!! Congrats on the awesome experience opportunity! 👍

Congratulations and good luck!

For those of you who are interested in zoo internships, I'm interning at the Animal Kingdom park in Walt Disney World (Orlando, FL) right now. It's very competitive to get into and the pay isn't great, but the benefits are, and it's a great experience and an excellent opportunity for networking. Here's a link if you're interested; I think they're going to start hiring people for the July-January session soon: http://disney.go.com/disneycareers/...l_programs/animal_program_roles/ap_roles.html

Let me know if you have any questions! I'll be working in animal nutrition, but I'm going to try to shadow a vet in the vet hospital. 🙂

I actually just went there with my younger brother. 🙂 Really, really cool place, and everybody I saw working was on permanent happy juice or something. xD;

Just figured I'd chime in about the internships at Disney's Animal Kingdom, I did the veterinary hospital internship about 2 years ago and it was an amazing experience! The staff is wonderful and the things that I was part of were incredible. No, I didn't make much money, but it was totally worth it! I'd be more than happy to answer any questions as well.

Hello, For those of you that did the Disney internships would you be able to give me some more information about it? How did you go about applying and when do the applications open? I have been trying to get a hold of anyone who can help me. I graduate in Fall 2016 and wanted to do it right after graduation. Any guidance would be great. I already meet all of the qualifications needed to apply. I have worked at a wildlife hospital for almost 2 years.

Applications open up soon. Keep checking. I know they were interviewing in November when I was there, but sometimes things happen earlier/later than the year before. For Jun-Jan, look for the application to open up sometime in February. As for getting a hold of someone, it is highly unlikely that you will ever get a hold of someone directly involved with the internship. The emails of those people won't be seen unless you get an interview. Until you pass the initial screenings and background check and are invited to interview, you'll only deal with College Program/Professional Internship recruiters.

Just to make sure, you've worked at a traditional small animal clinic as well, right?
