I just got a B- in accelerated summer OChem 1. The class was at 3x the pace as in the normal school year, but I knew that when I signed up for it. I realize that a single B- is not detrimental, but we have just started the second quarter and I figured that another B- might follow. It's not that the material is too hard, but just the pace of it......I never really have time to let the material solidify before I take an exam, so I always end up missing little things. Should I retake the class in the Fall and get an 'A', or man up and accept a B-? My GPA is 3.7 if that helps. Thanks.

Can you drop the second quarter and take it in the fall instead? One B- in the first quarter isn't the end of the world but you should avoid another if possible...

Second quarter just started today, so I can drop without a 'W' on my transcript and I will receive all of my money back. If I decided to take second quarter during the school year, I would have to wait until Winter quarter. I was just thinking of dropping this second quarter, and then just taking the whole three quarters of the class Fall/Winter/Spring like most people do. If I did that, I could likely get all A's......worth it?

Does your school allow you to retake classes that have grades higher than a C? At mine, we were only allowed to retake anything lower than a C- for credit

Yeah, my school allows us to retake classes no matter the grade I think. I know that the Chem majors have to have a B average in the chem classes, so they are often forced to retake C's if they want to finish their degree.

I'm finishing tomorrow a 3 weeks E&M course. Let it be said that I will never put myself in that situation ever, ever again.

My sympathies, OP.

edit: also, what?! Don't retake. It'll look like you're simply GPA padding tbh.

So what do I do then? Drop this second quarter while I still have time and take it in the winter? That's my only other option.

Bump. Sorry, but I need to decide soon if I want to drop the class and get a full refund!

Just take the B- in the first class and get an A in the other quarters. If you retake, it will look pretty bad if you don't get an A. You don't want to risk that.

EDIT: So, in my opinion, drop the class now and sign up for it in the winter.

Also, make sure you're ready once that winter quarter comes around. I thought the first part of ochem was hands down the easiest.

Yeah like I said, the material wasn't difficult at all, it's just that the pace was so fast. We had a test every week!
Anyways, what would it look like if I did retake the first quarter and ended up getting an A? I know I could.....

Obviously I don't think retaking the first quarter and getting an A will hurt, but i don't think anybody is really going to care that much. If it was a C or C-, then maybe. I think it's a waste of your time and money retaking. I'm pretty sure the idea around this site is that you should only think about retaking classes if you get below a B-. Plenty of people get Cs in multiple classes and still get admitted into medical school. We're all human. It happens.
